Inleiding
Van oorsprong 18de eeuws pand, tot voor kort dienst doende als TONEELGEBOUW met CAFÉ, extern omstreeks 1885 ingrijpend verbouwd en voorzien van ornamenten in eclectische trant. Het pand heeft de functie van café en beschikt ook over een toneelzaal. In de smalle uitbouw links in de voorgevel werden vroeger kaartjes voor de boot verkocht. De uit Utrecht afkomstige kegelbaan, die zich achter het pand bevond, is er omstreeks 2000 uit gesloopt.
Omschrijving
Het haaks aan de Langegracht gelegen grachtenpand is opgetrokken op een enigzins gerende bijna rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een mansardedak waarvan de bovenste dakschilden een zeer flauwe helling hebben. Het dak is achter gedekt met gesmoorde oudhollandse en opzij en voor met rode Hollandse pannen. De voorgevel heeft een grijsgeschilderde plint en een bepleisterde eerste bouwlaag.
Voor de eerste bouwlaag van de voorgevel is een veranda gezet met geprofileerde gietijzeren zuilen. Het afdak doet tevens dienst als balkon. De voorgevel telt vier vensterassen. In het midden zijn twee schuifvensters aangebracht. Links is een smalle uitbouw gezet met een venster. Aan de zijkant van het uitbouwtje is een deur met gietijzeren rooster en bovenlicht. Geheel rechts bevindt zich de hoofdingang, gevormd door een deur met gietijzeren rooster en een bovenlicht. De tweede bouwlaag bevat twee paar openslaande deuren met bovenlicht en op de hoeken een schuifvenster met T-raam. Boven elk venster is een ontlastingsboog met sluitsteen aangebracht. De boogtrommels zijn gevuld met een schelpmotief. De gevel is ter plaatse van de vensters voorzien van gestucte banden en wordt afgesloten met een recht fries. Voluutvormige consoles dragen de geprofileerde goot. In het dakvlak bevindt zich een dakkapel.
De rechterzijgevel is blind.
Tegen de achtergevel zijn een tweetal aanbouwen gezet. In het midden van de achtergevel is een dubbele glasdeur gezet. Op de verdieping bevinden zich twee schuifvensters onder rollaag. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een boeibord.
Tegen de linkerzijgevel is Langegracht 43 (ged.) gebouwd.
Het interieur bestaat rechts uit een gang en links twee kamers waarvan de achterste hoger ligt boven een kelder. In de voorkamer zijn (eind negentiende-eeuwse) onderdelen zoals de wand achter de bar, voorzien van spiegels, en het stucplafond. In de tweede bouwlaag bevindt zich de toneelzaal, met onder meer een stucplafond met ornamenten en een toneelombouw. De kapconstructie bestaat uit laat negentiende eeuwse Hollandse spanten.
Waardering
Het aan de Langegracht gelegen pand, tot voor kort (omstreeks 2000) fungerend als toneelgebouw met café en kegelbaan is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als gaaf voorbeeld van een aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw verbouwd pand met oorspronkelijke functie en interieuronderdelen. Tevens vanwege de ensemblewaarde vanwege de ligging aan de Langegracht binnen het beschermde gezicht Maarssen-dorp.

Originally an 18th-century building, until recently serving as a THEATRE BUILDING with CAFÉ, externally substantially altered around 1885 and provided with ornaments in an eclectic style. The building has the function of a café and also contains a theatre hall. In the narrow extension on the left of the front facade, boat tickets were formerly sold. The skittle alley, which came from Utrecht and was located behind the building, was demolished around 2000.
Description
The canal-side building, situated at right angles to the Langegracht, is built on a somewhat sloping almost rectangular plan and comprises two storeys under a mansard roof of which the upper roof tiles have a very gentle slope. The roof is covered at the rear with dormers in the old Dutch style and at the sides and front with red Dutch tiles. The front facade has a grey-painted plinth and a plastered first storey.
A veranda with profiled cast-iron columns is set in front of the first storey of the front facade. The canopy also serves as a balcony. The front facade has four window bays. In the middle two sash windows are installed. On the left a narrow extension is placed with a window. On the side of the small extension is a door with a cast-iron grille and fanlight. On the far right is the main entrance, formed by a door with a cast-iron grille and a fanlight. The second storey contains two pairs of French doors with fanlights and on the corners a sash window with T-frame. Above each window a relieving arch with keystone is provided. The arch barrels are filled with a shell motif. The facade at the windows is provided with stuccoed bands and is finished with a straight frieze. Volute-shaped consoles support the profiled gutter. In the roof plane is a roof dormer.
The right side facade is blank.
Against the rear facade are two extensions. In the middle of the rear facade is a double glazed door. On the upper floor are two sash windows under a roll-up. The facade is finished with a protective board.
Against the left side facade is Langegracht 43 (joined) built.
The interior consists on the right of a corridor and on the left two rooms of which the rear one is raised above a cellar. In the front room are (late 19th-century) components such as the wall behind the bar, provided with mirrors, and the stucco ceiling. In the second storey is the theatre hall, with among other things a stucco ceiling with ornaments and a stage frame. The roof truss structure consists of late 19th-century Dutch roof trusses.
Evaluation
