Inleiding

Introduction

Located on the Dorpsstraat, a COACH HOUSE with STABLE and DWELLING HOUSE, built in 1858-1859 and formerly belonging to Dorpsstraat 12, a farm which also served as an inn and courthouse. Around 1900 the property came into the possession of the Van Tuyll van Serooskerken family, the residents of Slot Zuilen. The stable section has been extended to the rear. The building now serves among other things as an office and restaurant following renovation in 1992-1993.

Description

The coach house with stable and dwelling house, with its building mass parallel to the Dorpsstraat, consists of three building sections, all of one storey and provided with a mansard roof. On the left is the stable, in the middle the recessed coach house, and on the right the dwelling house. The coach house has a stone with the date `Ao 1858', the dwelling one with `Ao 1859'.

The facades are constructed above a black rendered plinth in red brickwork. Ornamental wall anchors are used. Windows and doors generally have arched tops under a segmental arch. Small openings are arranged under the wooden box gutter, which rests on iron brackets, some of which are provided with cast-iron grilles.

The left section, the stable section, is constructed on a rectangular floor plan and is covered with a mansard roof with Dutch tiles. The front facade or south facade is a long side and has four windows with muntins. Above these are stone horse-heads mounted against the facade. The left side facade has an arched double carriage entrance with a horse-head above it. The right side facade contains an arched double carriage entrance and at the apex an arched four-pane window. The rear facade is largely blank.

The recessed coach house is covered with red Dutch tiles. The front facade has a symmetrical main layout with a risalit in the centre with a pointed gable projecting through the gutter line under a shallow projecting roof. The risalit contains double arched doors, a brick drip moulding with a shutter with arched top above it. On either side of the risalit is a small window and in the outer corners a door. The rear facade is largely blank. The beam structure of the coach house is largely original. The dwelling house section has an L-shaped floor plan. The front facade has a risalit with projecting roof on the left in the centre. Against the risalit is a three-sided bay with a hipped roof, crowned by a cast-iron railing. In the sloping sides is a sash window with rounded muntins in the upper section. The front facade section of the bay has a white rendered blind opening. In the apex of the risalit are two small windows. The right section of the front facade is recessed. This contains the main entrance, consisting of a panelled door with glazing and grille. Next to it is an equally large blind opening with rendered plasterwork in the facade.

The right side facade is largely formed by the cross-wing of the L-shaped building section. The facade contains windows of the same type as those in the bay. The rear facade contains a number of windows and a door.

Valuation

The object is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural-historical value as an example of a coach house with stable and dwelling house from the 19th century, which is well-preserved particularly with regard to its main form and exterior detailing. Also of cultural-historical and ensemble value in relation to (the owners of) Slot Zuilen and the village of Oud Zuilen.
