Inleiding
In 1898 bij gedenkboom geplaatst HEK, de zogenoemde Wilhelminaboom, is geplant ter ere van haar troonbestijging. Het hek is in Art Nouveau uitgevoerd. Oorspronkelijk stond de boom iets meer naar links in de Herenstraat, vóór de muur rond het kerkhof van de Oude Kerk. Toen deze boom sneuvelde in een storm in 1983 werd het hek verplaatst naar de huidige locatie.
Omschrijving
Ui-vormig hekwerk van smeedijzer. Het hek is samengesteld uit horizontale en vertikale, gebogen stangen met decoratieve toevoegingen van gekrulde elementen en gestyleerde bladmotieven aan de bovenste uiteinden. Tussen de beide onderste horizontale banden zijn drie ijzeren wapenschilden bevestigd. De gebogen schilden zijn blauw geschilderd en dragen een contrasterende, gele hoofdletter W (van Wilhelmina). Een vierde blauwe schild is ruitvormig en voorzien van het eveneens in geel uitgevoerde jaartal 1898.

Introduction
In 1898, a FENCE was placed at a commemorative tree, the so-called Wilhelmina tree, which was planted in honour of her accession to the throne. The fence is executed in Art Nouveau style. Originally the tree stood somewhat further to the left in the Herenstraat, in front of the wall surrounding the churchyard of the Old Church. When this tree fell in a storm in 1983, the fence was moved to its present location.
Description
U-shaped wrought-iron fencing. The fence is composed of horizontal and vertical, curved rods with decorative additions of curled elements and stylised leaf motifs at the upper ends. Between the two lower horizontal bands are attached three iron coats of arms. The curved shields are painted blue and bear a contrasting yellow capital W (for Wilhelmina). A fourth blue shield is diamond-shaped and carries the year 1898 executed likewise in yellow.
