Inleiding
PRIESTERGRAF, bestaande uit een grafzerk met een tombe, dekplaat en staande plaat. Het betreft het graf van Jan Willem Brouwers (1831-1893), in neogotische stijl, behorende bij het complex 'Urbanuskerk te Bovenkerk'. Jan Willem Brouwers was pastoor van de St. Urbanuskerk vanaf 1872 en één van de grondleggers van de neo-gotiek in de negentiende eeuw in Nederland, samen met P.J.H. Cuypers en J.A. Alberdingk Thijm. Het graf is gesitueerd op de begraafplaats, gelegen ten noord-westen van de St. Urbanuskerk aan de noordzijde van de Noorddammerlaan te Bovenkerk.
Omschrijving
Het priestergraf heeft een hardstenen dekplaat op tombe en bakstenen voet onder afwerklaag van cement en een staande plaat van zandsteen op een hardstenen voet. De hardstenen dekplaat vermeldt in de rand rondom de tekst: "Jan Willem" (boven), "Brouwers geb. Margraten 1 jan. 1831" (rechts), "Pastoor Bovenkerk" (onder) en "1 jan. 1872 Maastricht 3 Maart 1893" (links). In het bovenste carré is een graal uitgehouwen, met in de hoeken de griekse tekens I C A W. Het onderste carré vermeldt de tekst: "Ego sum resurrectio et vita qui rre=diderit in me etiamsi mortuus fueritvivet". De zandstenen staande plaat heeft een neogotische spitsvorm en neogotische motieven, zoals driepassen, palmtakken en neogotisch kruis.
