Inleiding
In de stijl van het TRADITIONALISME gebouwde GESLOTEN BOERDERIJ. De boerderij is in een buitengebied gesitueerd, ver buiten de bebouwde kom van Herkenbosch, temidden van diverse landerijen en boomgaarden. In haar huidige functie is de boerderij een gemengd bedrijf.
De boerenhoeve maakt een imposante indruk. K. Uilkema deed in de jaren twintig van de 20ste eeuw een uitgebreid historisch boerderij onderzoek in geheel Nederland. Hij omschrijft Zegershof te Thorn, die een exacte kopie is van Beatrixhof, als een volmaakt voorbeeld van een hofboerderij: een boerderijtype waarbij alle afdelingen in min of meer gesloten groepering een onoverdekte binnenplaats omringen. De eigenaar is een nazaat van baron de Pelichy, namelijk Miguel Ch. M. Gh. Gilles de Pelichy te Oedelen. Baron de Pelichy stichtte dit bedrijfsgebouw in 1899 en verpachtte het vervolgens aan de heer Wolfhagen, overgrootvader van de huidige pachter.
De aanbouw aan de achtergevel stamt uit omstreeks 1970, de aanbouw aan de linkerzijgevel uit 1997 en een stal los van de rechterzijgevel uit 1989.
Omschrijving
De BOERDERIJ heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met zadeldaken met betonpannen op de bedrijfsgedeelten en muldenpannen op het woongedeelte.
De boerderij kent vier haaks op elkaar staande vleugels die een binnenplaats omsluiten die middels een ruime poortingang tussen het woongedeelte en de voormalige varkensstal bereikbaar is. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen en natuursteen. Het metselwerk is in kruisverband uitgevoerd. Onder de dakrand bevindt zich siermetselwerk in de vorm van een bloktandlijst.
Het gehele object kent een risalerende plint, die in de voorgevel gestuct is. In de gevelvlakken treft men smeedijzeren muurankers aan. Alle vensters en deuren zijn van hout en hebben natuurstenen dorpels. Deze zijn niet aanwezig bij de vierkante vensteropeningen naar de zolders.
De midden- en hoekdelen van de voorgevel (oostzijde) eindigen in topgevels.
In de LINKERHOEK VAN DE VOORGEVEL in de eerste bouwlaag een segmentboogvormige houten poort en twee segmentboogvormige houten gelede vensters met gelede bovenlichten aan. In de tweede bouwlaag bevindt zich een rechthoekige vensteropening, afgesloten door een houten luik, in dezelfde kleurstelling als de poort. In dit hoekgedeelte loopt het bedrijfsgedeelte over in het woongedeelte.
LINKS VAN DE CENTRALE POORTINGANG in de voorgevel - de gevel van het woongedeelte - vier segmentboogvormige houten vensters aan met roedeverdeling, bovenlichten en wit-blauw gekleurde blinden.
ONDER DE TOPGEVEL VAN HET MIDDENGEDEELTE bevindt zich respectievelijk een segmentboogvormige poortopening met houten poort en twee Emse stenen, een stucwerk-omkadering met de naamsaanduiding "Beatrixhof", een houten segmentboogvormig venster met roedeverdeling en blinden, een geleed bovenlicht alsmede een rond venstergat. Op het DAK van het middeldeel, waarvan de houten dakrand uitloopt in een houten decoratie, staat een dakruiter met klokje en spits.
In het RECHTERGEDEELTE VAN DE VOORGEVEL treft men eveneens vier segmentboogvormige houten vensters met gelede bovenlichten aan, echter met imitatie-roedes en zonder blinden.
Het rechterhoekgedeelte kent dezelfde opbouw als het linker gedeelte. Alleen hebben de vensters imitatie roedes en ontbreken de blinden. In het dak bevinden zich twee dakramen. Het betreft hier een bedrijfsgedeelte.
De RECHTERZIJGEVEL (noordzijde) bevat drie gevelvlakken met totaal zes kleine segmentboogvormige vensters, een gevelvlak met één segmentboogvormig venster met roedeverdeling en geleed bovenlicht alsmede een houten segmentboogvormige poort en tot slot een gevelvlak met een rechthoekige houten schuifpoort. De authentieke ACHTERGEVEL (westzijde) wordt aan het zicht ontnomen door een recente aanbouw uit omstreeks 1970.
De LINKERZIJGEVEL (zuidzijde) bevat acht kleine segmentboogvormige vensters en een segmentboogvormige poortopening met houten poort. In het derde gevelvlak bevindt zich een dakkapel, voor de toelevering van agrarische grondstoffen. In het laatste gevelvlak is in 1997 een nieuwe melkstal gebouwd.
AAN DE BINNENPLAATS grenst de gevel van het WOONGEDEELTE. Het woongedeelte is te betreden via een segmentboogvormige houten deur met glas en roedeverdeling en geleed bovenlicht.
Rechts van de deur bevindt zich één en links van de deur drie segmentboogvormige houten vensters met vleugels, geleed bovenlicht en gekleurde blinden. Het dak bevat een dakraam.
Boven de eerder beschreven centrale poortopening met doorgang een segmentboogvormig houten venster. Onder de topgevel een rond gelede vensteropening en decoratief metselwerk. In het eerste bedrijfsgedeelte, de KALVERSTAL, bevinden zich een groot en drie kleine segmentboogvormige houten vensters, een segmentboogvormige houten deur en een vierkante poort in de eerste bouwlaag. In de tweede bouwlaag één vierkante opening met houten luik. In de gevel van de VOORMALIGE SCHAPENSTAL EN PAARDENSTAL/MANEGE achtereenvolgens een segmentboogvormige houten poort, drie segmentboogvormige houten deuren en drie kleine segmentboogvormige houten vensters in de eerste bouwlaag alsmede drie vierkante vensteropeningen met houten luiken naar de zolder in de tweede bouwlaag.
Aan de vleugel waar de ACHTERGEVEL zich bevindt, staat aan de kant van de binnenplaats een langgerekt afdak met lessenaardak dat wordt gestut door houten kolommen, bestemd voor stalling van diverse machines en voertuigen. In de gevel die zich hieronder bevindt drie kleine segmentboogvormige houten vensters, een houten deur en een vierde venstertje. Voor de wacht- en melkkamer is nu onder het afdak een garage met ijzeren poort geplaatst. De KOESTAL tenslotte kent aan de binnenplaats een segmentboogvormige poortopening met houten poort inclusief deuropening, met links drie segmentboogvormige houten vensters en rechts één in de eerste bouwlaag alsmede drie vierkante vensteropeningen met houten luiken naar de zolder in de tweede bouwlaag.
De structuur van het interieur van zowel het woon- als het bedrijfsgedeelte is nog geheel herkenbaar aanwezig.
Waardering:
De gesloten BOERDERIJ Beatrixhof aan de Steegstraat te Herkenbosch is door het type en de omvang van cultuur-historische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaaleconomische en typologische ontwikkeling van de boerderij aan het eind van de 19de eeuw tot een moderne hofboerderij. Hofboerderij in de betekenis van een boerderijtype, waarbij de verschillende afdelingen in gesloten groepering een onoverdekte binnenplaats omringen. A CLOSED FARMHOUSE built in the style of TRADITIONALISM. The farmhouse is situated in a rural area, far outside the built-up area of Herkenbosch, amongst various arable lands and orchards. In its current function the farmhouse is a mixed business.
The farm makes an imposing impression. K. Uilkema carried out extensive historical farmhouse research throughout the Netherlands in the 1920s of the 20th century. He describes Zegershof at Thorn, which is an exact copy of Beatrixhof, as a perfect example of a courtyard farmhouse: a farmhouse type in which all sections in a more or less closed grouping surround an uncovered courtyard. The authentic REAR FACADE (west side) is obscured from view by a recent extension from around 1970.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE (south side) contains eight small segmental arch shaped windows and a segmental arch shaped gate opening with wooden gate. In the third facade section there is a roof gable, for the supply of agricultural raw materials. In the last facade section a new milking parlour was built in 1997.
ON THE COURTYARD borders the facade of the RESIDENTIAL SECTION. The residential section is accessed via a segmental arch shaped wooden door with glass and glazing bars and divided fanlight.
To the right of the door there is one and to the left of the door three segmental arch shaped wooden windows with casements, divided fanlight and coloured blinds. The roof contains a roof window.

In the facade of the FORMER SHEEP SHED AND HORSE STABLE/RIDING HOUSE successively a segmental arch shaped wooden gate, three segmental arch shaped wooden doors and three small segmental arch shaped wooden windows in the first storey as well as three square window openings with wooden shutters to the loft in the second storey.
On the wing where the REAR FACADE is located, on the courtyard side stands an elongated lean-to with lean-to roof supported by wooden columns, intended for storage of various machines and vehicles. In the facade beneath this there are three small segmental arch shaped wooden windows, a wooden door and a fourth small window. For the waiting and milking room a garage with iron gate has now been placed under the lean-to. The BYRE finally has on the courtyard side a segmental arch shaped gate opening with wooden gate including door opening, with on the left three segmental arch shaped wooden windows and on the right one in the first storey as well as three square window openings with wooden shutters to the loft in the second storey.
