Inleiding
Gietijzeren openbaar URINOIR. Dit urinoir is bevestigd aan de linker zijgevel van het pand Maasbandijk 1, het voormalige veerhuis. In oorsprong waren er zeven van deze urinoirs in het dorp, de overige zes zijn in de loop der tijd verdwenen.
Het urinoir is vermoedelijk rond 1900 vervaardigd door de "PLETTERIJ DEN HAAG". Deze N.V. Pletterij, voorheen L.J. Enthoven, werd in het begin van de 19de eeuw gesticht. Het bedrijf werd tussen 1905 en 1907 overgeplaatst naar Delft waar het in andere ondernemingen opging.
Het is niet ondenkbaar dat het urinoir eerder is geplaatst. In 1869 wordt al een voorstel gedaan om in Amsterdam een identiek of nagenoeg identiek urinoir te plaatsen. Het ontwerp is dus al veel ouder.
Omschrijving
Het urinoir is vervaardigd van gietijzer en heeft een halfrond bovengedeelte met platte achterzijde. De ronde vorm is aan de voorzijde gedeeltelijk geopend. De achterzijde is voorzien van de tekst ?Pletterij Den Haag?. Het bovengedeelte rust op een trechter, die uitmondt in een ronde afvoerbuis. Onder het urinoir is een gietijzeren rooster aangebracht.
Het urinoir kan nog steeds worden gebruikt en wordt ook gebruikt.
Waardering
Gietijzeren urinoir uit ca 1900.

Cast-iron public URINAL. This urinal is attached to the left side gable of the property Maasbandijk 1, the former ferry house. Originally there were seven of these urinals in the village, the other six have disappeared over time.
The urinal was presumably manufactured around 1900 by the "PLETTERIJ DEN HAAG". This N.V. Pletterij, formerly L.J. Enthoven, was founded in the early 19th century. The business was relocated between 1905 and 1907 to Delft where it merged into other enterprises.
It is not inconceivable that the urinal was installed earlier. In 1869 a proposal was already made to install an identical or nearly identical urinal in Amsterdam. The design is thus much older.
Description
The urinal is made of cast iron and has a hemispherical upper section with a flat back. The round shape is partially open at the front. The back is provided with the text "Pletterij Den Haag". The upper section rests on a funnel, which opens into a round drainage pipe. Beneath the urinal a cast-iron grate has been installed.
The urinal can still be used and is also in use.
