Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
A HUNTING LODGE dating from the third quarter of the nineteenth century, located in woodland and belonging to the estate Appel. The hunting lodge is executed in a traditional-craftsman style in which the detailing of the windows shows influences of Neo-Gothic. The building consists of a former hunting room, two residential sections and a stable section. The hunting lodge is accessible via an unpaved road from the Akkerweg.
Description
The building has a rectangular, virtually square ground plan. It has two hipped roofs, separated by a raised gutter, with U-shaped ridge lines. The roof is thatched with reed. Recently, various small roof lights have been installed in the roof pitches. The hunting lodge is situated at an angle to the path. The building has four chimneys. Two of these stand in the roof plane above the front facade. The roof pitches above the side facades each also have a chimney. The facades are built of fine brickwork in Flemish bond. The FRONT FACADE faces the adjacent meadow. The facade has three window bays. The windows are closed by a segmental arch with a keystone. They have white wooden frames on a brick plinth executed in the form of a drip moulding. The shutters follow the form of the segmental arch. The sash windows are fitted with an elegant glazing with three crossed bars one above the other. The facade is provided with corner pilasters. Identical pilasters are located between the windows. Centrally in the facade the roof line is interrupted for a tall roof dormer with a cross gable. In this are tall double doors with a pane. The roof dormer has a fanlight with crossed bars and a segmental arch that follows the line of the saddle roof.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE has a fine entrance arrangement to the right of centre. The tall door has a white wooden frame on hardstone steps. The fanlight has a segmental arch and crossed bars. Above this door, against the facade, a saddle roof has been placed on six white wooden posts with connecting lattice work. To the left and right of this entrance arrangement is a large sash window with shutters, a segmental arch and crossed bars. On the left is a similar, narrower window. To the left of this is a door with a segmental arch. Above the REAR FACADE, the division into two hipped roofs is visible in that the ridge line is not carried through here. Centrally in this facade are large double doors under a flat basket arch with a keystone. The jambs of the lower and upper doors are faced on the left and right with hardstone: above and below one, halfway two. Left and right in the facade is a tall positioned semi-circular closed cast-iron tilt window with glazing bars. The RIGHT SIDE FACADE has approximately in the centre a sash window with a segmental arch, without shutters. The frame has three crossed bars. On the left in the facade is a similar but wider window with shutters. To the right of centre are large double doors under a flat basket arch with a keystone. In both reveals are three large pieces of hardstone for holding the jambs: below, above and halfway. Far right is a (stable) door with a segmental arch.
The INTERIOR possesses, amongst other things, a rare cast-iron fireplace surround and breast of Neo-Renaissance style in the left front room and a fully tiled chimney breast in the right front room. Beneath the upper room is an no longer accessible cellar. The stable section has been largely preserved in the original and is fitted with clinker paving, stalls and a privy.
