Omschrijving
Inleiding:
- voor de geschiedenis van de industriele archeologie van Nederland in het bijzonder van die der in Nederland ontworpen en gebouwde windmotoren;
- voor de ontwikkeling van de vroeg-twintigste-eeuwse Nederlandse bemalingstechniek met gebruikmaking van een Amerikaans model windmolens;
- als maalwerktuig kenmerkend voor de overgang van de bemaling van kleine bemalingsgebieden door traditionele windmolens naar die door "moderne" Amerikaanse windmotoren;
- als maalwerktuig kenmerkend voor de fase die ligt tussen windbemaling en motorbemaling;
- vanwege zijn rol in het ontstaan van de bemalinggeschiedenis van het bemalingsgebied de "Goutumsche Mieden" en later het waterschap "De Middelsékrite";

Description
Introduction:
The AMERICAN WINDMOTOR is a distinctive landmark in the open meadow area between Goutum and Swichum.
The windmill of the "Record" type, developed on the American model, was manufactured in the Netherlands and designed in the early twentieth century by Gebr.Bakker at IJlst. The mill was built in the early thirties on the site of a demolished traditional windmill. At some tens of metres distance stood a second specimen of which the concrete foundation remains.
In the immediate vicinity stood about ten traditional windmills which were replaced by windmotors. These have all now disappeared.
Description
The tower stands in a concrete foundation box provided with wooden lids. In the foundation box is installed a steel impeller pump provided with a wooden delivery pipe with a wooden check valve. A steel trash rack is installed on the polder side. The mill drains the vm. drainage area the "Goutumsche Mieden" and discharges into the Frisian boezem. The steel tower of normal height has a ladder and an octagonal frame consisting of steel beams, a wooden deck and a steel fence. At the top of the tower is mounted a cast steel motor body. The sixteen galvanized steel blade-counting windwheel has a diameter of 4.50 metres. The wheel consists of six radial arms between which segments each containing three blades connected by two rings are mounted. The mill is provided with one vane for self-regulation according to wind direction. Self-regulation according to wind strength occurs because as the rotational speed increases the resulting tooth pressure reaction force of the windwheel becomes greater than the tension of the screw spring of the vane, the mill will thereby turn shrinking out of the wind. The upper shaft of the mill is provided with a catch installation which automatically comes into operation when the mill turns out of the wind. The mill is provided with a cast steel gear train and steel spindles. The impeller pump is thereby directly driven by the vertical spindle.
Valuation
The so-called American windmotor from the first half of the 20th century is of cultural-historical and industrial-archaeological importance:
- for the history of industrial archaeology in the Netherlands in particular that of windmills designed and built in the Netherlands;
- for the development of early-twentieth-century Dutch drainage technology using an American model windmill;
- as a milling apparatus characteristic of the transition from the drainage of small drainage areas by traditional windmills to that by "modern" American windmills;
- as a milling apparatus characteristic of the phase lying between wind drainage and motor drainage;
- because of its role in the emergence of the drainage history of the drainage area the "Goutumsche Mieden" and later the water board "De Middelsékrite";
- because of its landscape significance as a distinctive landmark in the open meadow area between Goutum and Swichum.
