Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Former convent complex consisting of various convent buildings and a convent chapel. The oldest wing, dating to the eighteenth century, on the west side is a protected monument. The entrance building, chapel and the oldest residential wings date from the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The building style applied to the convent buildings is traditionalist; only the building style of the convent chapel shows elements of Neo-Romanesque. The wing on the south side from 1937 is not described here, as are the extensions built after 1945 to this wing.
Description

The former convent chapel is likewise connected on the south side to the two oldest residential wings from the last quarter of the previous century. The wing adjoining the chapel contains three storeys. To this wing belongs a tower structure. Adjacent to this wing a convent wing in four storeys. The legally protected wing is positioned at right angles to the rear facade of the oldest convent wing on the west side. The buildings have rectangular wooden windows partly with round-arched or segmental-arched fanlights. Hipped roofs and gabled roofs covered with slates.

On the right side the rear facade adjoins the older already protected castle wing so-called Kasteel Exaten.
The left part of the front facade of this convent wing projects forward and in the angle between the recessed and projecting facade section stands a tower structure. This tower structure on a square floor plan contains three storeys plus mezzanine and is covered with a hipped roof with slates. In the facade sides rectangular and segmental-arched blind windows.

In the three chapels on the altar side mosaic floors with flower and leaf motifs. In each chapel a small round arch resting on two black natural stone columns. Former sacristy with authentic wooden panelled door and ornamented door frame.
Evaluation
The convent buildings possess cultural-historical values as a particular expression of a cultural, spiritual and typological development.
Architectural-historical values are derived from the buildings by their importance for the history of architecture, the aesthetic qualities of the designs and the ornamentation. Ensemble value is derived from the buildings by their setting in a park-like environment at the edge of the built-up area of the place Baexem. The buildings are of general interest because of the architectural integrity of the exterior and a part of the interior of the former chapel; the high-quality architectural quality of the constituent components and in relation to the visual integrity of the rural surroundings.
Moreover, there is a matter of architectural-historical, typological and functional rarity.
