Inleiding
Tegen de dijk, buitendijks aan de rivierzijde van de Waaldijk, gelegen voormalig PEILHUISJE. Het werd in 1874 gebouwd en diende voor het meten van de waterhoogten en het waarnemen van ijs. In 1989 is het buiten gebruik geraakt toen de waterstanden per computer werden geregistreerd. Binnen staat het oude MEETINSTRUMENT uit 1926, dat nog geheel intact is. Een dergelijk peilhuisje heeft gestaan in Bruinisse.
Het peilhuisje is gelegen op een basaltstenen talud en wordt omgeven door een (deels vernieuwd) houten hek. Ter linkerzijde bevinden zich nog drie zogenaamde BUITENSCHALEN.
Omschrijving
Het peilhuisje is gebouwd op een rechthoekig grondplan, waarvan de lange zijde evenwijdig loopt aan de Waaldijk. Het telt één bouwlaag onder een met zink gedekt zadeldak met roefconstructie. De gevels zijn gepleisterd en wit geschilderd.
De VOORGEVEL is symmetrisch ingedeeld. Centraal op de begane grond bevindt zich een rondboogvormige, houten, dubbele deur. Het gevelvlak wordt geflankeerd door hoeklisenen die aan de bovenzijde overgaan in het boogfries onder de dakrand en aan de onderzijde in de plint. Het zo ontstane verdiepte vlak wordt horizontaal geleed door twee uitspringende lijsten die aansluiten op de eveneens uitspringende deuromlijsting. Het gevelvlak wordt beëindigd met een profiellijst. De ACHTERGEVEL is identiek met dien verstande dat in plaats van een deur een rondboogvormig venster is aangebracht dat bestaat uit een vierruitsdraairaam met een halfcirkelvormig bovenlicht en wordt afgesloten met een Louvre-luik.
De KOPGEVELS zijn eveneens identiek. De gevelbehandeling is overeenkomstig de voor- en achtergevel, maar door de puntgevel gaan de hoeklisenen aan de bovenzijde over in een klimmend boogfries. Voorts is in zowel de linker- als de rechterzijgevel een vierruitsdraairaam met een halfcirkelvormig bovenlicht en een Louvre-luik aangebracht, overeenkomstig de achtergevel.

Introduction
Against the dike, outside the dike on the river side of the Waaldijk, situated former GAUGE HOUSE. It was built in 1874 and served for the measurement of water levels and the observation of ice. In 1989 it fell out of use when water levels were registered by computer. Inside stands the old MEASURING INSTRUMENT from 1926, which is completely intact. Such a gauge house has stood in Bruinisse.

Description
The gauge house is built on a rectangular ground plan, with the long side running parallel to the Waaldijk. It comprises one storey under a gabled roof covered with zinc and with a roof truss structure. The facades are plastered and painted white.
The FRONT FACADE is symmetrically arranged. Centrally on the ground floor is a semicircular wooden double door. The facade surface is flanked by corner pilasters which at the top merge into the arch frieze under the eaves and at the bottom into the plinth. The recessed surface thus created is articulated horizontally by two projecting mouldings that connect to the equally projecting door surround. The facade surface is terminated with a moulding. The REAR FACADE is identical with the proviso that instead of a door a semicircular window is provided consisting of a four-pane casement with a semicircular fanlight and is closed with a Louvre shutter.
The GABLE WALLS are likewise identical. The facade treatment corresponds to the front and rear facades, but the corner pilasters pass through the gable at the top into a climbing arch frieze. Furthermore, in both the left and right side facades a four-pane casement with a semicircular fanlight and a Louvre shutter is provided, corresponding to the rear facade.
On the left-hand side of the gauge house stand three enamelled GAUGE SCALES in a steel frame. The lowest scale stands in the water in front of the dike slope, the middle one stands at the bottom in the slope and the highest stands at the top in the slope.
In the INTERIOR there is a large built-up well on which the MEASURING INSTRUMENT stands. Via a pipe at the bottom of the well this is in communication with the river arm, whereby the water level in the middle of the river can be measured directly.
