The register's description

Inleiding.

Introduction.

Large DWELLING HOUSE, located on the corner of the Oude Dieze with the Triniteitsstraat, built in 1888 on commission of Mr. Theodore Serraris, later used as an office of the commodity inspection service. The building displays the formal language of Neo-Renaissance.

Description.

The two-storey mansion with L-shaped floor plan is constructed from a brownish-red machine-made brick and has two storeys. It has a parallel gabled roof with slates in Maas bond. The facades have a stone plinth and string courses below the windows. There are also natural stone decorative courses. The T-shaped sash windows have basket arches with decorative brickwork and corner and keystones. Between the windows wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors. Double panelled door under a basket-arched relieving arch with corner stones and keystone with lion's head. In the field above the door year and initials SV. The side facade has the same windows as the front facade and a triangular shoulder gable with stone covering and top finial with ornamental wrought-iron crown and weathervane. In the top a three-part windowed niche. On the corner on the first floor a diagonal corner oriel on substantial natural stone consoles. The oriel has a natural stone covering. Cornice and roof dormers are additions from the early twentieth century. The extension has T-windows and repeats the detailing of the front facade. The rear facade is of simpler design. In the recess of the extension a single-storey section with wrought-iron balcony railing and three-part windows. Garden wall with gate. Internally the building preserves in the hallway with pilasters a coffered stucco ceiling. Panelled doors. Stoke cellar with masonry barrel vaults between iron beams. Stairwell with carved newel between ground floor and upper storey. On the upper floor hall with stucco coffered ceiling.

Assessment.

The dwelling house is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the construction of luxurious dwellings in the peripheral zone of the medieval inner city. The object is also important as an example of the typological development of the dwelling house. It has architectural-historical value because of the detailing and the design as a broad house. The object has ensemble value because as a corner building it forms part of a preserved street elevation in neoclassical styles. The house is finally important because of the integrity of the exterior and parts of the interior.
