Inleiding.
Driedubbel WOONHUIS, per pand bestaand uit een boven- en benedenwoning, gebouwd in 1898 aan een der hoofdassen van het uitbreidingsplan Het Zand, naar ontwerp van de architect L. Frankefurt in opdracht van C. de Rooy. Het geheel vertoont de vormentaal van de Neo-Renaissance en het Eclecticisme. De afdekkingen van de hoekerkers ter plaatse van de panden 3-5 en 11-13 zijn in 1941 verwijderd.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags panden met souterrain, afgedekt met platte daken met voorschilden met leidekking. De voorgevels vertonen een symmetrische opbouw in rode baksteen met ornamenten, pilasters en speklagen in gele baksteen. Hardstenen plint. De afzonderlijke panden tellen elk drie raamassen, waarvan een wordt ingenomen door de entreeportiek met erker. Deze erker sluit bij de hoekpanden de gevelcompositie af, bij het middenpand is de erker rechts gelegen, waardoor binnen de symmetrische opbouw een schilderachtige asymmetrie ontstaat. Entreeportieken met eiken dubbele deuren. In de erkers driedelige ramen. In de bekroningen een raam onder rondboog, bij de middenerkers gevat in een topgevel met smeedijzeren pinakel. De hoekerkers hebben kroonlijsten met fronton en vormen een markant accent in de de straatwand. Pand no. 3 bewaart nog een deel van de verdwenen bekroning, in de vorm van een zinken ronde cartouche. Ongedeelde schuiframen en deels T-ramen, op de begane grond van de hoekpanden met rondbogen. De overige ramen hebben segmentbogen met siermetselwerk. Deels nog glas-in-lood bovenlichten.
Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke indeling in hoofdlijnen bewaard gebleven. Waardering.
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van woningen in de eerste Bossche stadsuitbreiding na de slechting van de vestingwallen; het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de boven- en benedenwoning. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door mengvorm van eclectische en neorenaissancevormen in stijl en detaillering en is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van het werk van L. Frankefurt. Het pand heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de typologische en stedenbouwkundige samenhang met de overige bebouwing aan een der hoofdassen van het plan 't Zand. Triple DWELLING HOUSE, each unit consisting of an upper and lower apartment, built in 1898 on one of the main axes of the expansion plan Het Zand, designed by architect L. Frankefurt on commission of C. de Rooy. The whole displays the formal language of Neo-Renaissance and Eclecticism. The roof coverings of the corner buildings at numbers 3-5 and 11-13 were removed in 1941.
Description.
Two-storey buildings with basement, covered with flat roofs with lead-covered roof panels. The front facades display a symmetrical composition in red brick with ornaments, pilasters and decorative courses in yellow brick. Stone plinth. Each individual building has three window bays, one of which is occupied by the entrance porch with oriel. This oriel closes off the facade composition at the corner buildings; at the central building the oriel is positioned on the right, creating a picturesque asymmetry within the symmetrical composition. Entrance porches with oak double doors. In the oriels triple-part windows. In the crowning sections a window under a round arch, in the central oriels set within a stepped gable with wrought-iron finial. The corner oriels have cornices with pediment and form a striking accent in the street elevation. Building no. 3 preserves part of the lost crowning, in the form of a zinc round cartouche. Unglazed sash windows and partly T-windows, on the ground floor of the corner buildings with round arches. The remaining windows have segmental arches with decorative brickwork. Partly still leaded glass fanlights.
Interiorly the original layout has been preserved in its main lines. Assessment.
