Inleiding
VEILINGGEBOUW uit 1901 naar ontwerp van de Dordtse architect H.A. Reus (1872-1935). Op het perceel stonden oorspronkelijk drie zestiende-eeuwse panden. Het middelste pand had een voorerf waar de veiling plaatsvond. In 1839 kwam de veiling in handen van A. Mak. Tijdens de verbouwing in 1901 kwam de huidige voorgevel tot stand en werden de drie panden samengevoegd tot een geheel.
Het pand maakt deel uit van de monumentale gevelwand aan de Visstraat in de historische binnenstad van Dordrecht dat binnen het beschermd stadsgezicht valt.
Omschrijving
Het veilinggebouw is opgetrokken in donkerbruine baksteen over twee lagen, verlevendigd met natuurstenen lijsten, sluit- en aanzetstenen en gevelranden.
Het grootste deel van het pand heeft een lijstgevel afgesloten met een balustrade. Het smalle rechterdeel van het gebouw heeft een hogere tuitgevel. Het pand heeft zadeldaken die zijn bedekt met rode Hollandse pannen.
Centraal in de lijstgevel een grote getoogde winkelpui met deur in een natuurstenen rondboogomlijsting waarin 'algemeen verkooplokaal' staat gegrift. Hierin dubbele deuren met aan weerszijden ramen met drieledig bovenlicht. De ronde boog is ingevuld met opvallende roedenverdeling van kleine vierkante raampjes en smalle rechthoekige raampjes. Aan weerszijden van de hoofdentree nog twee rondboogdeuren met drieledig bovenlicht. Boven de deuren een rond raam met vier hardstenen aanzetstenen. De ronde raampjes hebben ijzeren stervormige roedenverdeling wat verwijst naar de vereniging van kunst en handel. In de aanzetstenen van de bogen van de deuren staat 'elck soecke sijn gadingh'.
Op de verdieping drie rondboogramen eveneens met opvallende roedenverdeling in vierkante en rechthoekige vlakken. De ramen hebben hardstenen onderdorpels.
In het rechter deel bevindt zich de kantoorentree. Deur en etalageraam zijn in een korfboogvormig kozijn gevat. Op de verdieping een rondboogvormig kozijn met hardstenen onderdorpel. Hierin zijn twee boven elkaar geplaatste openslaande ramen met zij- en bovenlichten geplaatst met ertussen een houten beschieting met driehoekige decoraties. Direkt onder dit raam een hardstenen latei met de woorden: 'nieuwe meubelen'. In de gevel meerdere uitgemetselde pilasters die vanaf verschillende hoogtes tot aan de dakrand lopen, beginnende met een uitgehakte, gebolde hardstenen aanzetsteen. De lijstgevel heeft langs de gevelrand een gemetselde balustrade met negen ronde openingen. Er onder een hardstenen band met op de vensterassen hogere balusters. In de geveltop bevinden zich twee kleine raampjes met ertussen een groter raam. Allen zijn geplaatst tussen hardstenen onderdorpels en verspringende hardstenen latei. De tuitgevel is afgezet met een hardstenen geblokte gevelrand met een hardstenen top waarin het monogram A.M. is gegraveerd.
Het interieur heeft diverse veranderingen ondergaan, waarbij het voorportaal met de lambrisering van houten panelen en de gietijzeren zuilen in de naastgelegen toonzaal goed bewaard zijn gebleven.

Introduction
AUCTION BUILDING from 1901 designed by Dordrecht architect H.A. Reus (1872-1935). On the plot originally stood three sixteenth-century buildings. The middle building had a forecourt where the auction took place. In 1839 the auction came into the hands of A. Mak. During the renovation in 1901 the present front facade came into being and the three buildings were combined into a whole.
The building is part of the monumental facade row on the Visstraat in the historic town centre of Dordrecht which falls within the protected townscape.
Description
The auction building is constructed in dark brown brickwork over two storeys, enlivened with natural stone bands, closing and corner stones and facade edgings.
The greater part of the building has a cornice-topped facade closed off with a balustrade. The narrow right part of the building has a higher spout gable. The building has gabled roofs which are covered with red Dutch tiles.
Centrally in the cornice-topped facade a large arched shop front with door in a natural stone round-arch frame in which 'algemeen verkooplokaal' is carved. Herein double doors with windows on either side with three-part fanlights. The round arch is filled with striking glazing bars of small square panes and narrow rectangular panes. On either side of the main entrance two more round-arch doors with three-part fanlights. Above the doors a round window with four natural stone corner stones. The round panes have iron star-shaped glazing bars which refers to the association of art and commerce. In the corner stones of the arches of the doors stands 'elck soecke sijn gadingh'.
On the upper storey three round-arch windows likewise with striking glazing bars in square and rectangular sections. The windows have natural stone sills.
In the right part is situated the office entrance. Door and shop window are set in a basket-arch frame. On the upper storey a round-arch frame with natural stone sill. In this are two opening windows placed one above the other with side and top lights with between them wooden cladding with triangular decorations. Directly below this window a natural stone lintel with the words: 'nieuwe meubelen'. In the facade several raised pilasters which run from different heights up to the roof edge, beginning with a carved, bulged natural stone corner stone. The cornice-topped facade has along the facade edge a masonry balustrade with nine round openings. Under it a natural stone band with higher balusters at the window axes. In the gable top are two small windows with between them a larger window. All are placed between natural stone sills and offset natural stone lintels. The spout gable is finished with a natural stone rusticated facade edge with a natural stone top in which the monogram A.M. is engraved.
The interior has undergone various alterations, with the entrance hall with its wooden panel cladding and the cast-iron columns in the adjoining showroom well preserved.
