Inleiding
SCHOOLGEBOUW ("Gemeenteschool no.2"), in 1913 gebouwd naar ontwerp van Gemeentewerken in de stijl van de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance, waarbij door de toepassing van het Dordtse geveltype specifiek wordt teruggegrepen op historische stijlmotieven verbonden met de stad Dordrecht. De school was oorspronkelijk bestemd voor het openbaar lager onderwijs en was Hofschool genaamd. Achter het gebouw ligt een schoolplein.
Omschrijving
Het schoolgebouw heeft een T-vormige plattegrond en is op een uitgemetselde onderbouw opgetrokken in rode baksteen over twee bouwlagen met kaplaag. Het gebouw heeft een langgerekt volume langs de Hofstraat onder zadeldak en een haaks daarop staand deel onder zadeldak. De dakschilden zijn bedekt met Hollandse pannen. In de kap meerdere dakkapellen met houten luik en loden piron. Het metselwerk is verlevendigd met natuurstenen cordonlijsten.
De voorgevel bevat rechtgesloten kruiskozijnen met roedenverdeling, geplaatst onder teruggemetselde boogtrommels met decoratief metselwerk met hardstenen knoppen. Luiken voor de onderramen. Aan de onderzijde kunststenen dorpels die zijn opgenomen in een doorlopende cordonlijst. De boogtrommels van de ramen op de verdieping hebben gemetselde driepassen en kunststenen in de boogrand.
De symmetrische voorgevel, met centraal de hoofdentree, telt in totaal veertien vensterassen en heeft in het midden en op beide drieasssige hoekrisalieten een trapgevel met steekkap. De entree is bereikbaar via een dubbele hardstenen trap met een bordes en een balustrade van kunststenen zuiltjes. De balustrade loopt langs het bordes en wordt op de hoeken gemarkeerd door twee kunststenen beelden van leeuwen met een wapenschild. De dubbele paneeldeur is rondboogvormig en heeft vier rechtgesloten en twee rondboogvormige deurlichten met decoratief smeedwerk. De entree heeft een neorenaissancistische kunststenen omlijsting met fronton met in het fries de tekst 'Gemeenteschool no. 2'. Het hoofdgestel rust op twee halfzuilen met Composietkapitelen. In de zwikken profiellijsten. Ter hoogte van de verdiepingsvloer een band van siermetselwerk met natuursteenblokken en op de hoeken van de gevels leeuwenkoppen.
Op de verdieping zijn tussen de bovenramen gemetselde halfzuiltjes geplaatst die rusten op consoles met kunststenen kinderkopjes.
De centrale trapgevel heeft in de geveltop een kruiskozijn met aan weerszijden een kunststenen gevelsteen, met gekrulde hoeken en kuifje, waarin inscripties met het bouwjaar: 'anno' en '1913'. De trapgevels op de hoeken hebben twee kruiskozijnen in de top en een tweeruitsvenster met luiken. De geveltoppen zijn verlevendigd met gecementeerde banden. De trommelbogen zijn gemarkeerd met kinderkopjes. De treden van de trapgevels zijn afgedekt met kunststenen dekplaten. Op de geveltop een kunststenen leeuw.
De zijgevels van het hoofdgebouw zijn verlevendigd met gecementeerde speklagen. De rechterzijgevel heeft vier vensterassen. De linker zijgevel heeft links een zijdeur onder een triplet en op de verdieping een kruiskozijn. In beide dakschilden drie dakkapellen.
In de achtergevel van het hoofdgebouw rechts een smalle risaliet, waarin zich de toiletten bevinden, met op elke bouwlaag twee schuifraampjes. De dwarsgeplaatste bouwmassa heeft aan de kopse gevel een dubbele trapgevel met in de geveltoppen een tweeruitsvenster. Links een achteruitgang met dubbele deuren met triplet bovenlichten. Op de verdieping boven deze deuren een kruiskozijn. In beide zijgevels van dit bouwvolume zes vensterassen met rechtgesloten kruiskozijnen met roedenverdeling geplaatst onder teruggemetselde boogtrommels, waarin decoratief metselwerk met hardstenen knoppen. In beide kappen drie dakkapellen.
Het interieur bevat oorspronkelijke onderdelen zoals het betegelde portaal, granito gangvloeren en de plinten van groen geglazuurde tegels. De trappen in het centrale trappenhuis zijn van gepolijste natuursteen en hebben smeedijzeren balusters en spijlen en een brede houten leuning. The school building has a T-shaped floor plan and is built on a rammed masonry foundation in red brick over two storeys with attic storey. The building has an elongated volume along the Hofstraat under a gabled roof and a perpendicular section under a gabled roof. The roof slopes are covered with Dutch tiles.
