Inleiding
Houten KOETSHUIS uit 1905, deel uitmakend van het complex begraafplaats Oost-Knollendam. Tot in de jaren zestig van de 20ste eeuw stond hierin de lijkkoets (verkocht naar Zuid-Limburg als carnavalswagen). De rabatdelen van de linker zijgevel en de achtergevel zijn 1996 in versmalde vorm vernieuwd (16 cm in plaats van de oorspronkelijke 20 cm).
Beschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan (3,86 x 6,04 m) gebouwd koetshuis van één bouwlaag onder een zadeldak met de noklijn haaks op de weg. De uit brede rabatdelen samengestelde gevels rusten op poeren van rode machinale baksteen (vijf onder de langsgevels, drie onder de kopgevels). De kopse voor- en achtergevel zijn uitgevoerd als topgevel. De zijgevels hebben bovenaan een mastgoot. Op het dak liggen gesmoorde kruispannen.
In het midden van de voorgevel (O) bevindt zich een grote getoogde dubbele paneeldeur. De bovenste deurpanelen zijn diagonaal beschoten, de onderste vertikaal. De voorgevel heeft een overkragende dakrand waarlangs rechte windveren die bekroond worden door een (vernieuwde) makelaar. In de blinde zijgevels bevindt zich vooraan, op circa 1,80 m hoogte, een uit afwaterende latjes samengesteld ventilatierooster dat aan de binnenzijde met een houten schuif afgesloten kan worden. De achtergevel (W) is gesloten.
Het interieur bestaat uit één ruimte met een vloer van brede delen en een ziende kap die uitgevoerd is als een beschoten gordingenkap rustend op drie lichte spanten. De dragende constructie bestaat verder uit wandstijlen (vijf in de lengte, drie in de breedte). Zowel tegen de rechter- als de achterwand bevinden zich houten stokken waarover de bij de begrafenis gebruikte kleden te drogen kunnen worden gehangen.
Waardering
Het koetshuis uit 1905 is van algemeen belang uit cultuurhistorisch oogpunt als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex begraafplaats Oost-Knollendam.

Wooden COACH HOUSE from 1905, forming part of the Oost-Knollendam cemetery complex. Until the nineteen-sixties it housed the hearse (sold to South Limburg as a carnival wagon). Description
Coach house built on a rectangular ground plan (3.86 x 6.04 m) of one storey under a gabled roof with the ridge line perpendicular to the road. The gables composed of broad rabated sections rest on posts of red machine-made brick (five under the side elevations, three under the end gables). The front and rear end gables are executed as stepped gables. The side gables have a top gutter. The roof is laid with pantiles.
In the centre of the front gable (E) is a large arched double panel door. The upper door panels are diagonally boarded, the lower ones vertically. The front gable has an overhanging roof edge with straight wind braces which are crowned by a (renewed) bargeboard. In the blank side gables is located to the front, at approximately 1.80 m height, a ventilation grille composed of sloping drainage boards which can be closed on the inside by a wooden slide. The rear gable (W) is closed.
The interior consists of a single space with a floor of broad boards and an open roof truss structure executed as a boarded purlin roof resting on three light trusses. The load-bearing structure furthermore consists of wall posts (five along the length, three along the width). Against both the right wall and the rear wall are wooden poles over which the cloths used at funerals can be hung to dry.
Valuation
The coach house from 1905 is of general importance from a cultural-historical perspective as a historical-functional component of the Oost-Knollendam cemetery complex.
