Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
CONSISTORY with catechism room, built around 1900 in a building style related to Neo-Gothic. The building stands against the south gable of the nave of the Dutch Reformed church from 1567. The consistory building has been substantially altered internally and is currently in use by the church office of the Dutch Reformed church.
Description
The consistory annex catechism room is constructed in brick from a rectangular ground plan and is covered by a hipped roof with muted pan tiles over the main volume on the right, and a flat roof over the single-storey volume on the left. The ridge angle of the main roof is crowned by a ceramic finial. The facades are provided with a rendered plinth, white sandstone courses and ornamental wall anchors. The straight-topped windows have red tile sub-sills and are finished with various arch types of red facing brick and arch rings filled with decorative brick patterns in sandstone.
The front elevation is partly determined by an entrance portal in the form of an avant-corps with a flat roof. It contains a double door with metal fittings standing above a step, under a basket arch-shaped relieving arch with double semicircular arch in the arch ring. The portal is finished with a band of glazed black tile and on either side by pinnacles with artificial stone crowning. The side walls contain a blind arched window. The low, flat-roofed building section to the left of the portal contains two T-windows with leaded glass in the fanlights, under semicircular relieving arches with trefoils in the arch rings. The gable edge is executed as that of the portal. The right volume has a centre section crowned by a gable. It contains two windows with leaded glass in the upper sash of the T-windows, under compressed ogival relieving arches with keystones and coupled by a basket arch-shaped spanning arch. This arch is interrupted by the sub-sill of the attic window. The arch rings of the windows contain trefoils. The gable, an assembly of stepped gable and spout gable, is provided with moulded coping stones and stands in front of a cross-tiled saddle-roof-shaped transverse roof section. The attic window has a T-window with leaded glass under an ogival arch with keystone and arch ring with trefoil. The spout is decorated by a wrought iron crown. The horizontal gable finishes on either side of the gable carry moulded gutters.
The right side gable contains three windows with leaded glass in the upper sashes of the T-windows, which stand under arch rings filled with trefoils and semicircular relieving arches. The metal-fitted door on the right of the gable, standing above a stone step, has a four-pane fanlight with leaded glass under a roll moulding.
Valuation
The consistory building annex catechism room is of general importance by reason of cultural-historical and architectural-historical values located in the recognizable original function, the intactness and in the striking detailing and material use characteristic of the period of construction. The property has urban planning value and ensemble value by reason of the visually dominant location in conjunction with the adjacent church.
