Inleiding
In een traditioneel-ambachtelijke bouwstijl omstreeks 1932 gebouwde Antoniuskapel annex transformatorhuisje, gelegen aan een pleintje aan de Maasheuvel te Roosteren, gemeente Susteren.
Omschrijving
De ANTONIUSKAPEL ANNEX TRANSFORMATORHUISJE heeft een T-vorm als plattegrond. Het uitstekende gedeelte dient als kapel, terwijl in de dwarsligger het electrificatiegedeelte is ondergebracht.
Het object telt een bouwlagen onder zadeldaken met bitumen bedekking, de gevels hebben een natuurstenen plint en zijn voor de rest geheel gestuct.
De KAPEL heeft een rondboogvormige entree met hardstenen deuromlijsting. De entree kan worden afgesloten door een siersmeedijzeren hek met de inscriptie: H. Antonius. Boven de entree bevindt zich een kruisje van ingemetselde strips van tegels. In de rechter- en linkerzijgevel zitten lancetvormige vensters met glas-in-lood.
Het TRAFO-GEDEELTE heeft in de RECHTERZIJGEVEL - gezien vanaf entree kapel - een dubbele rechthoekige stalen deur in de eerste bouwlaag en een rechthoekig venster in de tweede bouwlaag, gevuld met schubbladen van ijzer. In de ACHTERGEVEL bevinden zich twee rechthoekige stalen deuren, voorzien van authentiek hang- en slotwerk. In de LINKERZIJGEVEL treffen we een rechthoekige stalen deur aan en een rechthoekig venster in de tweede bouwlaag, eveneens gevuld met schubbladen van ijzer.
De DORPELS zijn van natuursteen m.u.v. de twee stalen deuren in de achtergevel met dorpels met gebakken tegels.
De kapel heeft schouderstukken met uitkragingen op de eindpunten van de plattegrond.
Het INTERIEUR is volledig in tact en bevat onderdelen zoals een altaar en een beeld van de H. Antonius. De wanden zijn voorzien van wandschilderingen met verschillende geometrische motieven en een lelie-motief. Op het plafond is de letter A decoratief uitgebeeld.
Waardering
Het object is van belang vanwege de oorspronkelijke functie: een combinatie van wegkapel en transformatorhuisje. De combinatie van deze functies in één gebouw bezit hoge zeldzaamheidswaarde.
Bovendien bezit het object cultuurhistorische waarde met name het kapeldeel als uiting van katholieke geloofsbelevenis.
De wegkapel met transformatorhuisje is van algemeen belang op grond van gaafheid en cultuurhistorische zeldzaamheid.

THE ANTONIUSKAPEL WITH TRANSFORMER HOUSE has a T-shaped floor plan. The projecting section serves as a chapel, while in the cross-wing the electrification section is housed.
The object comprises storeys under gabled roofs with bituminous covering, the elevations have a natural stone plinth and are otherwise completely rendered.
THE CHAPEL has a semicircular entrance with hardstone door surround. The entrance can be closed by a decorative wrought iron gate with the inscription: H. Antonius. Above the entrance is a cross of inset tile strips. In the right and left side elevations are lancet windows with stained glass.
THE TRANSFORMER SECTION has in the RIGHT SIDE ELEVATION – viewed from the chapel entrance – a double rectangular steel door on the first storey and a rectangular window on the second storey, filled with iron louvres. In the REAR ELEVATION there are two rectangular steel doors, provided with authentic hinges and locks. In the LEFT SIDE ELEVATION we find a rectangular steel door and a rectangular window on the second storey, likewise filled with iron louvres.
THE SILLS are of natural stone except for the two steel doors in the rear elevation with sills of baked tiles.
The chapel has shoulder pieces with projections at the end points of the floor plan.
THE INTERIOR is completely intact and contains elements such as an altar and an image of H. Antonius. The walls are provided with wall paintings with different geometric motifs and a lily motif. On the ceiling the letter A is depicted decoratively.
