Inleiding
Voormalige ATELIERWONING "De Karekiet", gebouwd omstreeks 1904 voor de kunstschilderes Gesina Mesdag van Calcar. De beide zijvleugels zijn in 1938 aangebouwd; de linker was oorspronkelijk een veranda. Vanaf 1929 tot het einde van de jaren '80 van de twintigste eeuw was het pand in gebruik als jeugdherberg. Het in Ambachtelijk-traditionele trant opgetrokken houten pand is gesitueerd aan de noordwestzijde van de Kortenhoefsedijk op een houten bordes op palen in het water, vrij gelegen in het polderlandschap. Het pand is bereikbaar via een lange houten toegangsbrug.
Omschrijving
De voormalige atelierwoning heeft een hoogte van één bouwlaag en een kapverdieping onder zadeldak met dakkapellen in beide dakschilden, en boven de zijvleugels lessenaarsdaken, bedekt met rode Hollandse pannen. Het witgeschilderde pand is opgetrokken in houten rabatdelen, met in de topgevels vertikaal houten beschot. De houten toegangsbrug met trapje aan het einde en het houten bordes zijn uitgerust met een houten lattenbalustrade. De vensters hebben een roedenverdeling.
De voorgevel (ZO) bevat in de middenbeuk op de begane grond twee T-vensters met draairamen en op de kapverdieping twee vensters met draairamen. In de linker zijvleugel de toegangsdeur met zijlicht. In de rechter zijvleugel een reeks van drie kleine vensters. De zijvleugels bevatten langs de dakrand vertikaal beschot.
De linker zijgevel (ZW) bevat links drie gekoppelde vensters over de totale hoogte en rechts een tweedelig venster, de rechter zijgevel (NO) is blind.

Description
The former studio dwelling has a height of one storey and a roof space under a gabled roof with roof dormers in both roof slopes, and above the side wings lean-to roofs, covered with red Dutch tiles.
