Inleiding
De tweedelige MUUR met TOEGANGSPOORT tussen de panden Oostzanddijk 3 en 34 vormt de voormalige hoofdingang van de marinewerf te Hellevoetsluis, het grote dok aan het noordeinde van de Oostzanddijk. De poort is, gelet op de Eclectische bouwstijl, alsmede het bouwjaar van het belendende pand genaamd De Veste, de voormalige school voor Marine Machinisten uit 1877, vermoedelijk omstreeks 1880 gebouwd. De rijk vormgegeven toegangspartij symboliseert het grote belang dat aan de marinewerf werd toegekend.
Het metselwerk van de muren is vernieuwd.
Omschrijving
De muur met toegangspoort sluit de ongeveer 16 meter brede opening af tussen de oostgevel van het pand De Veste en de westgevel van het woonhuis Oostzanddijk 34. De toegangspartij bestaat uit twee muurdelen die gespiegeld identiek aan elkaar zijn, met een vier meter brede doorgang ertussen. De muren zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen in kruisverband met een gepleisterde witgeschilderde plint en hebben een ezelsrugafdekking. Elk muurdeel is voorzien van een gepleisterd spitsboogfries op uitkragende bakstenen consoles en van een groot spaarveld. De poort wordt aan weerszijden geaccentueerd door een rechthoekige hoekpijler met op de uitkragende top een hardstenen dekplaat met bolvormig sierelement. De pijlers zijn verder gedecoreerd met een band van sierpleisterwerk en in het metselwerk aangebrachte rechthoekige spaarvelden.
Waardering
De muur met toegangspoort van de voormalige marinewerf te Hellevoetsluis is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorische en de stedenbouwkundige waarde.

Introduction
The two-part WALL with ACCESS GATE between the properties Oostzanddijk 3 and 34 forms the former main entrance to the naval dockyard at Hellevoetsluis, the great dock at the north end of the Oostzanddijk. The gate, considering the Eclectic building style, as well as the building year of the adjoining property called De Veste, the former school for Naval Machinists from 1877, was presumably built around 1880. The richly designed access section symbolises the great importance attributed to the naval dockyard.
The masonry of the walls has been renewed.
Description
The wall with access gate closes off the approximately 16 metre wide opening between the east gable of the property De Veste and the west gable of the residential building Oostzanddijk 34. The access section consists of two wall sections which are mirror-image identical to each other, with a four metre wide passage between them. The walls are built up in red brickwork in header bond with a plastered whitewashed plinth and have a saddle-back capping. Each wall section is provided with a plastered pointed arch frieze on projecting brick consoles and a large spandrel. The gate is accentuated on both sides by a rectangular corner pilaster with on the projecting top a hard stone coping slab with spherical ornamental element. The pilasters are further decorated with a band of ornamental plasterwork and rectangular spandrels arranged in the masonry.
