Omschrijving onderdeel 12: (Bij Voorsterweg 139; op de bijbehorende kaart aangegeven met nr. 12) TUINBEELD (MERCURIUS) OP BASEMENT (aan het einde van het noord-zuid-pad uit de Binnentuin)
Het midden-18de-eeuwse, 1,55 meter hoge zandstenen TUINBEELD voorstellende Hermes of Mercurius. Op het hoofd de kenmerkende helm met vleugels; van deze laatste zijn alleen nog restanten aanwezig. De man staat in typische heupstand, geleund tegen een boomstronk. Een groot deel van de rechterarm ontbreekt, evenals de voet van het rechterbeen. Aan de linkervoet een laars met vleugels. De god draagt een mooi vallende, losse mantel, op de borst bijeengehouden door een streng met grote ogen. Het beeld staat op een zwaar hardstenen BASEMENT met rondom hol-bol profiel en afgeschuinde hoeken, 75 cm. in het vierkant en 35 cm. hoog.

Description of component 12: (At Voorsterweg 139; indicated on the accompanying map with no. 12) GARDEN SCULPTURE (MERCURY) ON BASE (at the end of the north-south path from the Inner Garden)
The mid-18th-century, 1.55 metre high sandstone GARDEN SCULPTURE depicting Hermes or Mercury. On the head the characteristic helmet with wings; of the latter only fragments remain. The man stands in a typical contrapposto pose, leaning against a tree stump. A large part of the right arm is missing, as is the foot of the right leg. On the left foot a winged boot. The god wears a beautiful flowing loose mantle, held on the chest by a cord with large eyes. The sculpture stands on a heavy hardstone BASE with concave-convex profile all around and chamfered corners, 75 cm square and 35 cm high.
