The register's description

Waardering

- vanwege de ouderdom;

- als karakteristieke onderdelen van een buitenplaats;

- vanwege de eenvoudige, functionele vormgeving;

Description of component 6: (At Voorsterweg 139; indicated with no. 6 on the accompanying map) GRAPE HOUSE AND FLOWER HOUSE

The two-part GRAPE HOUSE was built in 1877 against a high garden wall, which probably dates from the 18th century. This wall has been alternately painted black and white in the past. Currently the wall is stone-rose. The garden wall was in 1877 provided with an extra half-brick wall, with cavity space for extra insulation for the greenhouse built against it. Both gable walls are also double-walled. In the eastern gable wall and the middle wall are heavy window frames with arches in which thickly clamped crosswise doors are set. On the south side a heavy, low retaining wall built from reused bricks. Against this base wall within a sand-filled container for heat storage; the stems of the grapevines go down through mortared ducts and root in front of the greenhouse, thereby receiving double rainwater (namely also from the greenhouse). The glass roof consists of wooden ribs in inverted T-model bearing removable windows, 5 of these windows in each greenhouse half. With forged hooks and pins in the roof timbers, the windows can be set in various positions. The middle windows have hinged lights. The wall is covered at the rear with tiles and is finished at the front as a cornice and surrounded on top with lead flashing. Against the grape house, around 1890 a smaller FLOWER HOUSE was built on the west side, in continuation, with fixed glass roof and glass on the rear side with hinged lights in it. The roof trusses here have an A-shape with unequal legs. On the north-west corner of the greenhouse is a profiled sandstone coping stone as a termination of the 18th-century garden wall. The floor of the greenhouse is set down; a sunken space leads to a clamped door. In the greenhouse a middle wall to table height with a large platform at the window side, finished with red floor tiles in half-brick bond. Also a shelf with an expansion tank from the former hot-water heating system. The outside heating place is also still present. In 1983 the greenhouses were restored.

Valuation

The GRAPE HOUSE AND FLOWER HOUSE are of general importance:

- because of their age;

- as characteristic components of a country estate;

- because of the simple, functional design;

- because of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
