Inleiding

Description
Introduction
RESIDENCE, known as 'Villa Nova', was built as a gentleman's house, presumably in the third quarter of the nineteenth century in the Eclectic style. The main volume was subsequently extended at the rear (east side) with a two-storey volume. With this extension, a second entrance was created on the north side of the new volume. The originally open veranda on the south-west side was later enclosed and used as a conservatory. Currently only the foundation and tile floor of the conservatory remain. The property has been modified and renovated several times, including in the nineteen-fifties and in the nineteen-nineties. The house is located to the east of the Vecht and the Zandpad and forms part of the series of country estates and gentleman's houses along the Vecht. The house is separated from the road by a double, curved drive. On the street side (between the drives) there is a wrought-iron railings gate.
Description
The two-storey property is built in brick and finished with white render all around. The main volume on a square footprint has a hipped roof on the west side, covered with dark Dutch tiles. On the roof there are two rendered chimneys. A gutter marks the transition between this roof and the hipped roof of the rectangular volume at the rear. The three-bay cornice-topped facades are provided all around with a slightly projecting grey-painted plinth. The corner pilasters are executed with quoins, which are accentuated at storey height by a lozenge motif. Below the moulded, slightly projecting cornice there is a cornice, which is provided with quoins at the pilasters. The windows of the north and south elevations are set in recessed fields. The slightly arched windows and doors have moulded framing with a pediment. On either side of the windows hang shutters and in the slightly arched window frames there are T-sash windows. Below the windows are moulded panels with a lozenge motif in the spandrel fields.
The front elevation (west side), mirrored about the central axis, has a central risalite, in which the main entrance is located. This consists of a stone step, subframe and horns, double glazed doors and an arched fanlight. On either side of the entrance there is a window. Above the entrance is a balcony, supported by two richly ornamented, stuccoed consoles. The corner piers and handrail of the wrought-iron decorative railings are rendered. The double balcony doors have a slightly arched fanlight. On either side of the balcony there are two windows. The north elevation (left side elevation) is divided by pilasters into three bays. The left bay contains in each storey a blind panel with lozenge motif. To the right is an entrance with a stone step. The entrance contains a panelled door with a slightly arched transom. The two bays to the right contain one window per storey each. In the roof plane there is a roof dormer with hoist beam and glazing-bar mansard window.
The symmetrical east elevation (rear elevation) has a similar arrangement to the front elevation, but is executed without pilasters. On the first storey there are three mansard doors with arched fanlight and shutters. On the upper floor, the central axis has a mansard window and the other two axes have a T-sash window. The south elevation (right side elevation) contains in the left bay a door frame with glazed door with a window in the second storey. At the location of the door is the rectangular foundation and floor with mosaic tiles of the conservatory. In the middle bay there are two windows. The right bay contains per storey one blind panel as on the north elevation. The roof plane is intersected by a roof dormer with glazing-bar mansard window.
The interior has retained the original layout in its main features. The central hallway has a marble floor and door frames with marble subframes and plinth, moulded framing and panelled doors. On the south side there is an en-suite room. In the north-west room there is a wall niche with classical detailing and fixed wooden cabinets with panelled doors. Important features include the decorative stucco ceilings, the black marble fireplaces and the double-string wooden staircase with iron railings.
Valuation
The residence is of general importance due to its architectural and cultural-historical value as a good example of a gentleman's house located on the Vecht from the third quarter of the nineteenth century in Eclectic style with characteristic detailing and use of materials; due to its situational value as a visually defining component of the series of country estates along the Vecht.
