Inleiding
PRIEEL in rustieke stijl, als onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode.
De buitenplaats heeft zijn oorsprong in een 13de eeuws kasteel. Belangrijke uitbreidingen en restauraties hebben zich onder meer in de 17de eeuw voorgedaan onder Johan I Ortt, die ook de opdracht gaf voor de aanleg van een formele tuin. Vanaf 1907 was de buitenplaats in het bezit van de Amsterdamse koffiehandelaar Michiel Onnes. Hij liet het kasteel onder leiding van architect E.G. Wentinck herstellen naar een 17de eeuwse situatie en voegde enkele bijgebouwen toe. De tuinarchitecten L.A. Springer en H. Copijn waren verantwoordelijk voor de tussen 1912-1915 tot Landschappelijke tuin omgevormde aanleg met een gemengd karakter. Thans zetelt Nijenrode Universiteit voor Bedrijfskunde in het kasteel en is met de aankoop van grond in de richting van het Amsterdam Rijnkanaal het grondgebied van de buitenplaats opnieuw vergroot.
Omschrijving
Het prieel bevindt zich in het zuid-westelijke deel van het park van de historische buitenplaats Nijenrode, ten noordoosten van het voederhuisje. Het prieel van één bouwlaag met plat dak is op een bakstenen plint in hout opgetrokken vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond. De houten vakwerkconstructie is ingevuld met ronde delen in verticale, horizontale en diagonale positie. Aan de voorzijde (zuidzijde) is het prieel open.
Waardering
Het gebouwtje is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als een in hoofdvorm redelijk bewaard voorbeeld van een prieel uit het begin van de twintigste eeuw, vanwege het bouwtype en het materiaalgebruik alsmede als functioneel onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode. Het prieel heeft ensemblewaarde vanwege de ligging binnen de parkaanleg van het buiten en de ruimtelijk-functionele relatie met de andere onderdelen van het complex.

The estate originates from a 13th century castle.
