Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The BISHOP'S PALACE and BISHOP'S ARCHIVE are situated adjacent to each other in the closed street facade of the Paredisstraat in Roermond. The palace, originally a farmhouse, was purchased in 1848 by Mgr. Paredis, the first bishop of Roermond following the incorporation of the diocese with Liège. The farmhouse, built in the second half of the 19th century in 19th-century Traditional style, originally had a U-shaped plan with the residential section on the street side and the stables at the rear. In 1923, the bishop's archive was built to the right of the palace in Expressionist style according to designs by architects C. Franssen and J. Franssen, and is internally connected to the palace. In 1932, with the construction of an L-shaped volume in Traditional style according to designs by J.
Franssen, an enclosed courtyard was created. The courtyard was covered over in 1972 and a chapel was built on the first floor. The stained-glass windows above the large gate date from the period of Monsignor Lemmens, bishop from 1932 to 1958.
