Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS is gebouwd rond 1900 en staat dwars op een kruising van wegen, in de bebouwde kom van Vessem.
Omschrijving
De gevels van het eenlaagse pand met rechthoekige plattegrond zijn opgetrokken uit handvorm baksteen met een muizetandlijst onder de dakrand. Op het zadeldak liggen zwarte oud hollandse dakpannen.
De voorgevel bevat twee schuifvensters met gedeeld bovenlicht waartussen een paneeldeur met gedeeld bovenlicht. Rechts onder in de gevel bevindt zich een getralied kelderlicht onder segmentboog. De zijgevels zijn voorzien van rechte steekankers. De rechter gevel is blind op een duivengat met keperboog na. In de linker gevel bevindt zich een schuifvenster met gedeeld bovenlicht en op de zolderetage een vierruits schuifvenster, beide onder segmentboog. In de achtergevel bevinden zich een paneeldeur, een vierruits raam en een stolpvenster.
Via de voordeur komt men in een kleine hal, die links toegang geeft tot de woonkamer en rechts tot de woonkeuken. Hierin bevindt zich een dichtgezette keukenschouw en diverse deuren, waaronder die naar de ondiepe kelder. Op de begane grond bevinden zich aan de achterzijde twee slaapkamers en een smalle ruimte, waarin bij een verbouwing een keuken is geplaatst. Boven zijn er slaapkamers. Sanitaire ruimten zijn bij een verbouwing verplaatst naar het aangebouwde berghok. Het erf is omzoomd door een beukenhaag. Op en langs het erf staan diverse loofbomen waaronder walnoten.
Waardering
Het woonhuis met erf is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van eenvoudige woonhuizen voor arbeiders op het platteland, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het kleine woonhuis. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de sobere detaillering en de afgewogen verhoudingen. Het huis is van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur. Het is een zeldzaam voorbeeld van een kleine dorpswoning.

The façades of the single-storey building with rectangular floor plan are constructed of hand-moulded brick with a row of dentils under the eaves. The gabled roof is covered with black old Dutch roof tiles.
The front façade contains two sash windows with divided fanlight between which stands a panelled door with divided fanlight. To the lower right of the façade is a barred basement light under a segmental arch. The side façades are provided with straight steeple anchors. The right façade is blank except for a dovecote with herringbone arch. In the left façade is a sash window with divided fanlight and on the attic storey a four-pane sash window, both under segmental arch. In the rear façade are a panelled door, a four-pane window and a pole window.
Via the front door one enters a small hall, which on the left gives access to the living room and on the right to the living kitchen. Within is a blocked-off kitchen hood and various doors, including that to the shallow cellar. On the ground floor at the rear are two bedrooms and a narrow space, in which a kitchen was installed during renovation. Above are bedrooms. Sanitary facilities were relocated to the attached storage shed during renovation. The farmyard is bordered by a beech hedge. On and around the farmyard stand various deciduous trees including walnuts.
Valuation
The dwelling house with farmyard is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a special expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of simple dwelling houses for labourers in the countryside, and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the small dwelling house.
