Inleiding.
In de kom van Oosterhout gelegen MUZIEKKOEPEL met SIERTUIN, gebouwd in 1895 in Neo-Renaissance stijl in opdracht van de sociëteit 'De Eendragt'. De bouwkosten werden destijds geraamd op vierhonderd gulden. Het object is gelegen in een deel van de voormalige en thans heringerichte tuin van het pand aan de Sint Janstraat 9, het voormalige sociëteitsgebouw dat in 1934 werd gewijzigd en buiten de rijksbescherming valt. In de siertuin vier uit de bouwtijd stammende esdoorns en een rode beuk. De sociëteit had in de negentiende eeuw vaak officieren te gast. In 1854 wilde het tweede Regiment Dragonders iets terug doen voor deze gastvrijheid door middel van een weldadigheidsconcert in de sociëteit. Dit viel zo in de smaak dat men besloot regelmatig uitvoeringen te laten plaatshebben in de tuin van de sociëteit. In 1872 werd besloten tot de bouw van een 'verplaatsbaren muzijktempel' die in 1895 werd vervangen door voorliggend object. De muziekschelp is in 1982 gerestaureerd door het architectenbureau van E. Oomes en wordt nog steeds als concertpodium gebruikt.
Omschrijving.
De op een lichte verhoging gelegen muziekschelp beslaat een trapeziumvormige plattegrond en bestaat aan de binnenkant uit een gerekte, segmentkoepelvormige schelp en een gecementeerde vloer met aan de buitenzijde een driezijdig gesloten houten kast van gerabbatte plankdelen op een bakstenen sokkel. Symmetrisch vooraanzicht met hoekpilasters op zwart geschilderde basementen, voorzien van sierlijk gesneden halfkapitelen die een platte kroonlijst ondersteunen met decoratief afgeronde einden. De schelplijn verloopt als een gedrukte korfboog. Centraal een decoratief gesneden houten sluitstuk waarin smeedijzeren haak met daarboven een bekronende, symbolische houten harp. Decoratief schilderwerk in wit, bruin en geel, met name in de zwikken en pilasters. In de pilasters restanten van gasleidingen met kraantje.
Waardering.
De muziekschelp is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarden. Het is van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van het Brabantse verenigingsleven en de Brabantse muziekcultuur aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw. Introduction.
In the centre of Oosterhout is situated a MUSIC PAVILION with ORNAMENTAL GARDEN, built in 1895 in Neo-Renaissance style on commission of the society 'De Eendragt'. The building costs were estimated at four hundred guilders at the time. The object is situated in a part of the former and now redesigned garden of the building at Sint Janstraat 9, the former society building that was modified in 1934 and falls outside national monument protection. In the ornamental garden four sycamores and a red beech dating from the time of construction. The society frequently had officers as guests in the nineteenth century. In 1854 the second Regiment of Dragoons wanted to reciprocate this hospitality by means of a charity concert in the society. This was so well received that it was decided to hold regular performances in the garden of the society. In 1872 a decision was made to build a 'portable music temple' which was replaced by the present object in 1895. The music pavilion was restored in 1982 by the architectural office of E. The music pavilion, situated on a slight elevation, has a trapezoidal plan and consists on the inside of a stretched, segmental vault-shaped shell and a cemented floor, with on the outside a three-sided enclosed wooden structure of textured planks on a brick plinth. Symmetrical front elevation with corner pilasters on black-painted bases, provided with finely carved half-capitals supporting a flat cornice with decoratively rounded ends. The shell line runs as a compressed basket arch. Centrally a finely carved wooden keystone with wrought-iron hook above which a crowning, symbolic wooden harp. Decorative paintwork in white, brown and yellow, particularly in the spandrels and pilasters. In the pilasters remnants of gas pipes with tap.

The music pavilion is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical values. It is of importance as a distinctive expression of Brabant associational life and Brabant musical culture at the end of the nineteenth century.
