Inleiding.
Op de R.K. begraafplaats nabij de pastorie bevindt zich een Neogotisch GRAFMONUMENT van de Tilburgse textielfabrikant Christiaan Mommers (1836-1900). Deze had in Moergestel het buiten Hoogenhuizen. Het monument is in 1900 opgericht. De pijlers en kettingen rond het object ontbreken thans.
Omschrijving.
Uit hardsteen en deels uit marmer opgetrokken tombegraf met opstand. De tombe heeft een afgeschuinde plint en wordt afgedekt door een oplopende marmeren zerk met naam en levensdata van de overledene. Deze tombe is geplaatst tegen een aedicula, met een voetstuk met gebosseerde zijkanten, afgedekt door een geprofileerde deklijst. Op deze deklijst een verticale gedenkplaat met marmeren plaat en de tekst: 'Groot zullen de verdiensten zijn van hen die de opvoeding hunner kinderen verzorgd hebben'. De plaat is geplaatst binnen een aedicula, bestaande uit vier zuilen met bladkapitelen die een zware bekroning dragen. Deze is aan de zijden voorzien van eenvoudige verdiepte velden en afgedekt door frontons en een boomstamkruis op voetstukje. Aan de voorzijde in het gevelveld een marmeren tondo met hart, doorstoken met kruis en anker.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, met name de katholieke grafcultuur en is tevens van belang als herinnering aan een lid van de regionale elite. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege het ontwerp, materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Tomb with superstructure constructed from hard stone and partly from marble. The tomb has a bevelled plinth and is covered by a rising marble slab with the name and life dates of the deceased. This tomb is placed against an aedicula, with a base with rusticated sides, covered by a profiled coping. On this coping a vertical memorial tablet with marble slab and the text: 'Great shall be the merits of those who have cared for the education of their children'. The tablet is placed within an aedicula, consisting of four columns with foliated capitals carrying a heavy cornice. This is provided on the sides with simple recessed panels and covered by pediments and a tree-trunk cross on a small plinth. At the front in the facade field a marble tondo with a heart, pierced by a cross and an anchor.
Assessment.
The funerary monument is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of spiritual development, particularly Catholic burial culture and is also of importance as a reminder of a member of the regional elite. It has art-historical value because of the design, use of materials and ornamentation. It has been well preserved.
