Waardering

HOOFDGEBOUW is van algemeen belang want:

- het is in uitwendige verschijningsvorm en interne ruimteschikking, onder meer bestaand uit hoofdindeling, materialen en constructieve elementen alsook detaillering gaaf bewaard gebleven;

- het gebouw vormt de functionele en artistieke kern van de buitenplaats en draagt in hoge mate bij aan de historische belevingswaarde;

- het is een gaaf en karakteristiek voorbeeld van neo-classicistische bouwkunst op het platteland en heeft als zodanig betekenis voor de architectuurhistorie en voor de geschiedenis van het wonen;

Description

MAIN BUILDING (1) from circa 1855 (Stania State), in appearance and principal form block-shaped, comprising two storeys and an attic storey, neo-classical building, above a grey plinth apparently constructed in red brick - however the front facade is rendered in brick pattern consisting of render mortar and joint mortar, executed in English bond, the whole symmetrical in layout. The ground floor with two sets of two six-pane windows and an entrance section with a balcony positioned above in the centre, the balcony supported by two ashlar columns on basement and crowned with a Corinthian capital; the columns stand on a hard stone step with three risers. Front door with two hinged glazed doors, wide fanlight and moulded door surround. The storey has two six-pane windows to the left and right of the balcony, two hinged glazed doors opening onto the balcony, both framed and with fanlight executed; open-worked wrought-iron balcony balustrade. The windows have an ashlar underdorpel and a hanekam. Gutter on wooden corbels above wooden list. Centrally above the entrance section in the continuous hipped roof a double roof dormer with divided window, each with fanlight with intersecting glazing bars in the form of arrows. Four brick chimneys with soot cap on the ridge. The rear facade of the main building is symmetrically arranged and consists to the left and right of the middle bay on both storeys of two six-pane windows, identical to those in the front facade. In the centre a hard stone staircase of three risers leads to the rear door with divided fanlight. Above this a six-pane window. Brick block pilasters flank the middle bay, have an ashlar console halfway up and are connected above the window on the storey by a lightly curved list. Centrally placed roof dormer with two hinged eight-pane windows; pilasters. To the left and right of the main building a single-storey outbuilding identical in facades, principal form and layout with continuous hipped roof; facades on the front with four six-pane windows between roll-mouldings and closable with blinds. Red brick in English bond, centrally placed roof dormer with double hinged window with T-pattern. Grey old-Dutch tiles on the roof. Side facade of left outbuilding arranged with door under roll-moulding, to the left of this two six-pane windows between roll-mouldings, below these two double basement windows; bar anchors. To the right of the door a projecting section in the form of a lisene, to the left a standing notch in the brickwork. Simple roof dormer with double hinged window, each with T-pattern. Hooks for shutters at the windows. The rear facade has a simple door under roll-moulding with fanlight with V-motif, to the left of this two nine-pane windows under roll-mouldings; hooks for shutters. Roof dormer with small gable. Rear facade of right outbuilding with two modern doors under roll-moulding; the flat-roofed outbuilding built against this falls outside the protection. The side facade of the right outbuilding has on the storey two six-pane windows under a stretcher course, beside this a small French wrought-iron small balcony with two hinged doors. Internally the main building contains in the left outbuilding a still largely original, early nineteenth-century kitchen, two pumps and a fireplace, the floor laid with Bremen sandstone and the walls white-tiled. In the room to the left of the hall a fireplace surround by J. Roelofsen from circa 1871 with corresponding chimney (originating from the property Nieuwestad 98 in Leeuwarden, owned by W.J. van Welderen baron Rengers), double doors (mid-18th century, originating from Leeuwarden, C & A premises) and stucco ceiling. Furthermore among others a white marble small fountain on ground floor (hallway), door surrounds, doors, staircase, fireplaces and mantels, stucco ceilings, roof truss structure (circa the middle of the 19th century), small partitioned room on attic (north-west corner).

Valuation

MAIN BUILDING is of general importance because:

- it has been well preserved in external appearance and internal spatial arrangement, consisting among others of principal division, materials and constructive elements as well as detailing;

- the building forms the functional and artistic core of the country estate and contributes greatly to the historical experiential value;

- it is a well-preserved and characteristic example of neo-classical architecture in the countryside and as such has significance for architectural history and for the history of dwelling;

- architectural-historical significance lies in the loadbearing walls older than 1855 because originating from a predecessor of the current Stania State on the same location.
