Inleiding

Introduction

In 1921 built MUSIC PAVILION, located on an islet in the pond of the Villapark Overbeek. It is not clear what form the original music pavilion on the islet had. The villapark Overbeek was laid out in 1901 on the estate of the mansion Overbeek, which was rebuilt in the 18th century after a fire. The Baroque garden layout was replaced in 1800 by a park in landscape style. The estate was offered for sale in 1900 and on 21 July 1901 it was sold with house for f 150,000,-. The buyer was the NV Villapark 'Overbeek', founded on 15 December 1900 jointly by W. Honig. Honig was a successful architect who was active in Velp and the surrounding area and through the villapark also saw a way to expand his practice. Honig was later, amongst other things, municipal surveyor and member of the town council and was also involved in 1903 in the laying out of the villapark Schonenberg. The design, executed in the traditional landscape style, was made by the renowned landscape architect Hugo A.C. Poortman (1858-1953) and was based on the Dutch villaparks such as the villapark Duin en Daal in Bloemendaal designed by Springer. Five new roads were laid out and the moat around the house was deepened into a central water feature with small waterfalls, rock formations and the islet with the music pavilion. The old trees were preserved as much as possible. In the first three most successful years the villas were built and designed in-house by Honig. Later the villas were also designed by other architects. The earliest development in the villapark came about on the Overbeeklaan and the beginning of the Boulevard. The house Overbeek was, after a number of failed attempts to preserve the mansion as a post office or town hall, sold in 1906 to the building company 'Westerkwartier' from Amsterdam to be demolished. A road was subsequently laid through the site which was in line with the Vijverlaan. The planting around the pond consists, amongst other things, of spruces, locusts, beeches, limes, sweet chestnuts, planes and gold-barked larch.

Description

The rectangular music pavilion on the islet stands on a brick base with three-sided shaping at the short sides. Shrubs are planted around it. On the base are located the worked vertical wooden posts that carry the roof and which are connected to each other by means of a horizontal wooden railing. The hipped roof of the music pavilion is executed in thatch and furnished with thatch ridges. On the long sides the roof is partially lit. On the side of the Overbeeksingel the base zone is provided with steps. The islet on which the kiosk is located is connected to the Overbeeklaan by means of a simple wooden swing bridge. On either side of the bridge, both on the side of the Overbeeklaan and on the islet, brick bases are placed which are decorated with rendered heads.
