Inleiding.
ATELIERWONING, ontworpen door Margaret Kropholler in Expressionistische msterdamse School stijl. In 1919 gebouwd in opdracht van Richard Roland Holst op het landgoed De Buisse Heide (eigendom van de familie van Henriëtte Roland Holst-van der Schalk). Thans wordt het atelier bewoond.
Omschrijving.
Gebouw op vliegervormige plattegrond. Uitgevoerd in baksteen, deels gesinterd, onder een groot, laag aangezet schilddak. Het dak is gedekt met riet en heeft een licht golvend verloop. De noord- en zuidpunt van de plattegrond zijn afgeplat. De achterdeur bevindt zich in de zuidpunt, in de gevels aan weerszijden daarvan ramen. De gevels om deur en ramen zijn van hout, boven de deur eindigend in een in het dakvlak uitgespaarde driehoek. De noordkant heeft een groot trapeziumvormig raam met kleine roedenverdeling, de houten omlijsting heeft opkrullende uiteinden. Het raam is later naar beneden toe vergroot.
De ingangspartij ligt in de westelijke gevel, de deur ligt tussen bol teruglopende muren en heeft hoeken met houten kolommen onder een gepotdekselde omlijsting. Enkele smalle ramen in de gevels direkt onder de dakrand zijn bij een verbouwing vergroot door het dak iets op te wippen. Zowel bij de voor- als achterdeur zijn gebogen voetmuurtjes gemetseld, voor begroeid met klimop en aan de achterkant als plantenbak.
Het interieur bestond oorspronkelijk uit twee grote kamers met bergruimte tussen de muren. De noordkamer, het atelier, is gewijzigd: tegen de scheidingswand is een galerij met wenteltrap gemaakt. De brede kasten tussen de muren, zijn vergroot tot slaapkamer en keuken. De zuidkamer verkeert in oorspronkelijke staat en heeft houten kasten en vensterbanken met kleppen waarin de ramen neergelaten kunnen worden.
Waardering.
Het atelier is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de ontginning en uitgroei van een landgoed op het platteland, als rustplaats voor de stedelijke elites, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het atelier. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de stijl en detaillering en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van de architecte M. Kropholler. Description.
Building on a kite-shaped floor plan. Executed in brick, partly sintered, under a large, low-set hipped roof. The roof is covered with thatch and has a gently undulating profile. The north and south points of the floor plan are cut off. The rear door is located in the south point, in the facades on either side of it windows. The facades around the door and windows are of wood, above the door ending in a triangle recessed into the roof plane. The north side has a large trapezoidal window with small glazing bars, the wooden frame has curled-up ends. The window was later enlarged downwards.
The entrance is located in the western facade, the door lies between curved receding walls and has corners with wooden columns under a roof-tiled omission. Several narrow windows in the facades directly under the roof edge were enlarged in a renovation by raising the roof slightly. Both at the front and rear doors curved foot walls are built, in front overgrown with ivy and at the back as a planter.
The interior originally consisted of two large rooms with storage space between the walls. The north room, the atelier, has been altered: against the dividing wall a gallery with spiral staircase has been made. The broad cupboards between the walls have been enlarged into a bedroom and kitchen. The south room is in its original state and has wooden cupboards and windowsills with flaps in which the windows can be lowered.

It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of social-economic development, namely the reclamation and expansion of an estate in the countryside, as a retreat for the urban elites, and is also important as an example of the typological development of the atelier.
