Inleiding
Ten noorden van kazemat 447 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 502, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse afgegraven.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat een honderdtal meters ten noorden van de kruising met een landbouwweg. De kazemat geeft door het rechter schietgat flankerend vuur op dit pad en verder frontaal en flankerend vuur op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen. De B (90a) kazemat 501, die ten zuiden dan wel westen van 502 gelegen was, is bij ruilverkavelingen geamoveerd.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. North of casemate 447, on the western bank of the Defence Canal stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 502, dating from 1939-1940. The embankment has been excavated at this location.
Description
The casemate stands approximately one hundred metres north of the intersection with a farm road. The casemate provides flanking fire through the right gun embrasure on this path and further frontal and flanking fire on the forward terrain. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no combat damage. The B (90a) casemate 501, which was located to the south and west of 502, was removed during land consolidation schemes.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. It is of architectural and building-historical importance due to the distinctive use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the use of reinforced concrete.
