Inleiding
Ten noorden van kazemat 411 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 412, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse nog geheel aanwezig en heeft nog nagenoeg het oorspronkelijke profiel. Tussen kazemat 412 en 414 heeft kazemat G (135hv) gestaan. Hiervan resteren geen zichtbare sporen.
Omschrijving De kazemat staat in de hoek waar het kanaal een bocht van negentig graden in oostelijke richting maakt. ter plaatse kruist een onverharde zandweg het kanaal. Door het linker en rechter schietgat kan flankerend vuur op respectievelijk het oostelijke en zuidelijke kanaalpand worden gegeven, door het middelste flankerend vuur op de zandweg en het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. North of casemate 411 stands on the western bank of the Defence Canal the S (3a) CASEMATE 412, dating from 1939-1940. The rampart is still completely present at this location and still has virtually its original profile. Between casemate 412 and 414 casemate G (135hv) once stood. No visible traces remain of it.
Description
The casemate stands in the corner where the canal makes a ninety-degree bend in an easterly direction. At this point an unpaved sand road crosses the canal. Through the left and right loopholes flanking fire can be provided on respectively the eastern and southern canal banks, through the middle loophole flanking fire on the sand road and the foreground. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no signs of combat.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and as such is an important document of military history. It is of architectural and historical-construction importance because of the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the use of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential part of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is of importance because of the high quality of the construction and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waters and soil conditions. The whole has great aesthetic value and as a large-scale military complex and reminder of an important episode in national history is rare.
