Inleiding
Op de splitsing van de Leeuwerikstraat en de Eendenpoel staat, bij een sterk gewijzigd en buiten de bescherming vallend woonhuis, een geheel in hout opgetrokken TIMMERMAN-WERKPLAATS uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw in Ambachtelijk-Traditionele stijl.
Omschrijving
De werkplaats heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond, telt één bouwlaag en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met oud Hollandse pannen, dat aan de achterzijde lager is aangezet. Het gebouw bestaat uit een eenbeukig gebint met wandstijlen, korbelen, moer- en kinderbinten, aan de buitenzijde voorzien van een gerabatte en beschoten betimmering. De plint is gecementeerd. In de zuidelijke (straat-)gevel zijn naast elkaar twee achttienruits houten vensters aangebracht. In het rechterdeel van deze gevel geeft een brede, uit drie delen bestaande inrijpoort, waarin een vijftienruits licht, toegang tot het interieur. Ook in de oostelijke gevel zijn twee achttienruits vensters geplaatst. Omstreeks 1900 is hier een vrijstaande bakstenen schoorsteen opgetrokken. In het interieur zijn onder meer van belang de stookplaats en de verschillende oude schaaf- en zaagmachines, waaronder een uit omstreeks 1910 daterende oude lintzaag. De op het noorden gelegen achtergevel van het gebouw is blind en heeft een lager aangezet dakschild. Hieronder is een opslagplaats voor hout. Op het erf zijn de twee kleine houtloodsen van belang. Het eerste exemplaar staat aan de Leeuwerikstraat en heeft beschoten wanden. Op het lessenaarsdak ligt golfplaat. Het tweede bijgebouw staat aan de zijde van de Eendenpoel, heeft handvorm bakstenen gevels met bakstenen steunberen, een stroomlaag in de westelijke gevel en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met oud Hollandse pannen. In de gedeeltelijk beschoten zuidelijke gevel is een laadluik.
Het erf, dat is beplant met onder meer fruitbomen en walnoten, wordt deels omgeven door een beukenhaag.
Waardering
De timmerwerkplaats met houtloodsen is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-eonomische ontwikkeling van de ambachtelijke nijverheid en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de houten timmerwerkplaats. Het gebouw is tevens van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het ex- en interieur en de aanwezigheid van enkele authentieke machines, die bedrijfvoering van het timmermansvak documenteren en representeren. At the junction of the Leeuwerikstraat and the Eendenpoel, next to a greatly altered residence that falls outside the protected status, stands a CARPENTER'S WORKSHOP built entirely in wood from the last quarter of the nineteenth century in Craft-Traditional style.
Description
The workshop has a rectangular floor plan, comprises one storey and is covered by a gabled roof with old Dutch tiles, set lower at the rear. The building consists of a single-aisle timber frame with wall posts, corbels, tie beams and subsidiary tie beams, provided on the exterior with rabbeted and boarded cladding. The plinth is cemented. In the southern (street) facade, two eighteen-pane wooden windows are placed side by side. In the right part of this facade, a wide entrance gate consisting of three sections, in which a fifteen-pane light, provides access to the interior. Two eighteen-pane windows are also placed in the eastern facade. Around 1900, a free-standing brick chimney was erected here. In the interior, of particular importance are the stove and the various old planing and sawing machines, including an old bandsaw dating from around 1910. The rear facade of the building facing north is blind and has a roof panel set lower. Beneath this is a storage space for wood. On the premises, the two small timber sheds are of importance. The first example stands on the Leeuwerikstraat and has boarded walls. The hipped roof is covered with corrugated sheeting. The second outbuilding stands on the side of the Eendenpoel, has handmade brick facades with brick buttresses, a water-moulding in the western facade and is covered by a gabled roof with old Dutch tiles. In the partially boarded southern facade is a loading hatch.
The premises, which are planted with fruit trees and walnuts, are partially surrounded by a beech hedge.
Valuation
The carpenter's workshop with timber sheds is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical significance as an example of the socio-economic development of craft industry and as an example of the typological development of the wooden carpenter's workshop. The building is also of importance due to the integrity of its exterior and interior and the presence of some authentic machines that document and represent the operation of the carpentry trade. It is rare due to its design and construction and has been preserved intact.
