Inleiding

Verwoerd.

Introduction

The DWELLING HEININGENHOEVE was built in 1918 on the site where its predecessor, a farmhouse named Galgenhoeve, had burned down, and displays the formal language of Traditionalism.

The designer was architect J.A. van Dongen from Breda. Behind the dwelling is a simple bakehouse from 1940. On the east side a transverse-section barn was built on in 1953 to designs by F.J.M. Verwoerd. The original barn was lost in the Second World War. Both components fall outside the protection. The dwelling was renovated in 1976-77 and provided with roof dormer windows and a large window in the rear facade, while the original style was precisely maintained.

Description

The dwelling has an almost square plan and has a half-hipped roof with black pantiles, with overhang on blocks. The facades are of machine-made brick, provided with a small relief band above windows and around the door and straight wall anchors.

The front facade has on either side a cross window with underlugs and fanlights with small glazing bars. In the centre is the panelled door placed in a shallow round-arched portico with fanlight and side lights with small glazing bars. Above the door is a rectangular field with the name: "Heiningenhoef". On the attic are three six-pane windows. The right and left side facades each have two six-pane windows with small glazing bars and half shutters, with above them the new roof dormer windows. The rear facade has on the right a door with side window, a high-placed window in the centre and on the left a six-pane window with underlugs. This new window has replaced a high-placed small window. On the attic storey again three six-pane windows.

The interior has been renovated and renewed. Retained are the moulded door framings and the fitted cupboard wall in the large kitchen at the rear. The central passage provides access to the toilet at the front door, the first indoor w.c. at a farmhouse in this area, and several large rooms. The living room has been considerably enlarged by breaking through to the rear. A flight of stairs with broad wooden decorative balusters leads to the upper storey. Under the stairs a panelled door leads to the cellar.

The original wooden partitions have been replaced by brick and a bathroom has been added on this storey with bedrooms.

Around the house is the farmyard and a large flower garden. A drive lined on both sides with acacias and oaks leads to the house.

Valuation

The farmhouse dwelling is of general importance as an example of socio-economic development, in particular the construction of farmhouses, country houses and villas in the green surroundings of Breda. As a detached type that differs greatly from farmhouse construction before 1918 it is of importance for the history of architecture. Finally, the property is important because of the integrity of in particular the exterior.
