Omschrijving
Inleiding
Delahaye. In 1944 zwaar beschadigd en in 1952 hersteld. In 1991 door Gebr. Vermeulen gerestaureerd en gereconstrueerd.

Description
Introduction
The R.K. WILLIBRORDUSKERK was built in 1926-1927 to a design by architect Jacques van Groenendael. The style is a mixture of Neo-Romanesque elements and Byzantine influences and elements of the Amsterdam School.
Description
The west facade of the centralising cruciform church with octagonal closed apse is flanked on both sides by a tower.
On the right is a small octagonal staircase tower with spire, on the left a tall tower with square plan with an adjoining low octagonal tower. The three towers and the roof lantern have an octagonal spire with copper cladding and Art Deco cross. The hipped roof and gabled roofs are provided with slate in Maas bond. The church facades are built up from machine-made brick with reliefs in weaving and pilasters at the large tower.
The tower has on all sides a blue tiled clockface with gilt figures and Art Deco concrete gargoyles at the corners. The west facade has three heavy doors with ornamental fittings, of which the middle one, double doors, is the tallest and widest. The round-arched stained glass fanlight shows a flight of ducks in a river landscape, facing the sun. Above this are two tile tableaux with the text in Gothic script: "Tibi sacrificabo" and "Hostiam laudis". Above all doors, in the rose windows and the tower windows stained glass is used. To the right of the church is a Mary chapel, on the left at the corner a chapel which now serves as a heating room.
The west, south and north gable ends are lit by large rose windows with figurative stained glass, depicting Christ and the apostles. The church is further lit by small triplet windows on the ground floor and small round windows above. In the apse are nine round-arched windows in which are depicted the instruments of the Passion of Christ.
The interior is dominated by the brick dome on heavy brick pillars. The band ribs at the dome and the round wall arches consist alternately of brick and sandstone blocks. The walls are built up from fair-faced masonry with green glazed decorative bands. The flooring consists of dark red tiles with some black decorative bands. The church pews date from the building period. The doors which close off the portico on the interior have a stained glass depiction of the predecessor of the church.
The masonry contains built-in confessionals with round-arched entrances. The semi-circular apse contains the organ, already protected by the State, which largely obscures the view of the paintings in the round-arched recesses. In the corner is the foundation stone from 14 October 1926, inscribed with Gothic lettering in gold. The church contains stations of the cross by G. van Geffen from 1929-43, stained glass windows by Joep Nicolas and Jan Willemen, a sculpture of Ambrose and some components from the predecessor such as the stone baptismal font from 1787 and two paintings: a Resurrection of Christ by W. Schaeken from 1823 and a Holy Family from the second half of the 17th century.
Valuation
The church is of general importance as an example of the development of Catholicism, in particular the aspiration to involve the congregation in the liturgy, and is also a good example of a centralising 'people's church'. The building is of architectural-historical value because of its place in the late oeuvre of the architect. The building is of particular importance for the silhouette and appearance of the village and because of the integrity of exterior and interior.
Organ with 1 manual and attached pedal, made in 1822 by J.J. Delahaye. Severely damaged in 1944 and restored in 1952. Restored and reconstructed by Gebr. Vermeulen in 1991.
