Inleiding
WINKEL met BOVENHUIS uit 1888 in Neo-Renaissancestijl. Ontwerp van de architectencombinatie D. Hemmelink en J.M. Marijnen. Het huis staat ingeklemd tussen belendende panden op de hoek van de Tolburgstraat en de Nieuwe weg met twee gevels aan de straat.
De smalle voor- of noordgevel met de toegang tot het bovenhuis bevindt zich aan de Tolbrugstraat en de lange zijgevel aan de Nieuwe weg.
Omschrijving
Drielaags huis op trapeziumvormige plattegrond gedeeltelijk onder zadeldak en plat dak met aan de voorkant een bekroonde tuitgevel. Op de hoek boven de voordeur een achtzijdig torentje en spits met ui en opengewerkte lantaarn. De daken zijn belegd met natuurstenen leien. Aan de achterkant heeft het huis op de eerste bouwlaag een plat dak met aan de straat een gemetselde balustrade en op de tweede bouwlaag een balkon.
De gevels van het huis zijn rijk geornamenteerd. Ze bestaan uit rode handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband afgewisseld door speklagen, de ramen met korfbogen en lateien met aanzet- en sluitstenen van Franse kalksteen. Het geheel staat op een geprofileerd hardstenen basement en wordt afgesloten met een kroonlijst.
In de muuropeningen twee- of driedelige T-vensters met bovenlicht overspannen door een gemetselde korfboog met een boogvulling van siermetselwerk van gele en rode baksteen of een gehakte natuurstenen latei. Aan weerskanten van de voordeur een gesneden houten winkelpui met kolommen en in het fries een schelpmotief als bekroning. In het dakschild aan de kant van de Nieuwe weg drie dakkapellen.
Op de nok van het dak en de balustrade van het balkon siersmeedijzeren hekwerken. De windvaan op het torentje, bekroning van de dakkapellen en het voordeurrooster zijn eveneens van siersmeedwerk.
Het interieur bevat onder andere waardevolle geornamenteerde stucplafonds en een gedeelte van de oorspronkelijke houten winkelbetimmering.

Description
Three-storey house on a trapezoidal floor plan partly under a gabled roof and flat roof with at the front a crowned spout gable. On the corner above the front door a octagonal turret and spire with onion dome and openwork lantern. The roofs are laid with natural stone slate. At the rear the house has on the first storey a flat roof with a masoned balustrade at the street and on the second storey a balcony.
The facades of the house are richly ornamented. They consist of red hand-formed brick laid in stretcher bond alternating with speckled courses, the windows with segmental arches and lintels with voussoirs and keystones of French limestone. The whole stands on a profiled sandstone base and is finished with a cornice.
In the wall openings two- or three-part T-windows with fanlight spanning a masoned segmental arch with an arch fill of decorative masonry of yellow and red brick or a hewn natural stone lintel. On either side of the front door a carved wooden shopfront with columns and in the frieze a shell motif as crowning. In the roof cladding on the side of the Nieuwe weg three roof dormers.
On the roof ridge and the balustrade of the balcony ornamental wrought-iron railings. The weather vane on the turret, crowning of the roof dormers and the front door grille are also of ornamental wrought iron.
