Inleiding.
HUIS met PRAKTIJK gebouwd in 1936 in de stijl van de Delftse School, voor notaris H.J.A. Pollen. Het ontwerp is van de Hilvarenbeekse architect P. Tooten. De westkant van het rechthoekige erf van het huis ligt aan het Voortse Pad en de oostkant aan de Doelenstraat.
Omschrijving.
Het huis, dat op een terras ligt, heeft een samengestelde plattegrond met het woongedeelte aan de zuid- en het praktijkgedeelte aan de noordkant van het perceel. Het woongedeelte heeft een vierkante plattegrond onder zadeldak tussen tuitgevels. Aan de oostkant een één en tweelaagse uitbouw onder respectievelijk een lessenaarsdak en zadeldak. Onder het lessenaarsdak bevindt zich een open portiek met gemetseld stervormig gewelf. Aan de westkant heeft het huis een uitbouw onder zadel- en platdak met daarin respectievelijk de kinderkamer en bijkeuken. Woongedeelte heeft op de begane grond de woon- en eetkamer met aan de zuidkant een driezijdige erker met lessenaarsdak, keuken, hal en trappenhuis en op de verdieping drie slaapkamers.
Onder het zadeldak op de begane grond de vestibule, garderobe en toilet met op de verdieping de badkamer. Het praktijkgedeelte bestaat uit een hoog en een laag gedeelte. Het hoge tweelaagse gedeelte is het representatieve deel van het kantoor, onder zadeldak met aan de noordkant een tuitgevel. In het lage eenlaagse gedeelte, onder gedeeltelijk lessenaars- en zadeldak, bevinden zich de dienstingang en dienstruimten. Oorspronkelijk was hierin de garage gesitueerd. Bij de laatste verbouwing is de garage bij het kantoor getrokken. Het terras rondom het huis is bereikbaar via vier toegangstrappen, tevens bevinden hier zich diverse gemetselde bloembakken. In de getoogde muuropeningen van het huis bevinden zich kloostervensters met onderluiken. Het metselwerk bestaat uit handgevormde rode baksteen gemetseld in wildverband, met rijke toepassing van natuursteen (onder andere tufstenen aanzetstenen en lekdorpels bij de vensters). De tuitgevels zijn voorzien van vlechtwerk.
Het interieur is grotendeels authentiek. Balken plafonds met vulstukken.
Eikenhouten bordestrap met lambrizering in hal.
Waardering.
Het huis met praktijk is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van woningen voor de plaatselijke elite. Het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis in het interbellum. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de aan de landelijke omgeving aangepaste compositie, stijl en detaillering en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van de architect Tooten, vormgegeven in een nadrukkelijk traditionalistische bouwtrant. The house, which stands on a terrace, has a complex plan with the residential part on the south and the practice part on the north side of the plot. The residential part has a square plan under a gabled roof between spout gables. On the east side a one and two-storey extension under a lean-to roof and gabled roof respectively. Under the lean-to roof is an open portico with a brick star-shaped vault. On the west side the house has an extension under gabled and flat roof containing respectively the children's room and scullery. In the last renovation the garage was incorporated into the office. The terrace around the house is accessible via four access stairs, and there are also various brick planter boxes here. In the arched wall openings of the house are cloister windows with lower shutters. The brickwork consists of hand-moulded red brick laid in random bond, with extensive use of natural stone (including tufa ashlar stones and drip mouldings at the windows). The spout gables are provided with timber framing.
The interior is largely authentic. Beam ceilings with plaster panels.
