Inleiding

Introduction

The VILLA "DE MISPELBOCHT" was built in 1932 and displays stylistic elements of the Amsterdam School and New Objectivity. The villa is located in Lage Mierde. The raised building is surrounded by a garden. The right facade of the building was extended around 1960 with a single-storey extension with entrance for a medical practice; in 1978 a low, flat-roofed extension was added to this.

Description

The three-storey villa with attic storey has an L-shaped floor plan. The facades are constructed of machine-made brick. The plinth is executed in dark brown brick, above that in red brick. Black Roman tiles cover the composite roof. The facades have an asymmetrical layout.

The front facade is dominated by a broken-pitched gable that ends on the left at the concrete canopy above the ground floor. On the right it ends one storey higher. On the left is a slightly recessed section with corner windows, separated from each other by the mentioned canopy. On the right is an extended semi-circular bay window with balcony. The windows have steel frames, some with a small glazing bar division, such as at the bay window; a number of steel frames were later replaced with aluminium examples; the scullery (rear side) has wooden frames. The ground floor is almost entirely glazed at the front. Above the double wide window in the gable section is the name: "De Mispelbocht" indicated in bronze ornamental letters. Above this is a smaller wide window and in the gable a standing, elongated variant of the Palladian window. On the left, in the corner between the gable roof and the hipped roof that stands perpendicular here, a tall narrow chimney is built in. The roof section above the corner window on the first floor is accentuated by a canopy and two recessed sections that are covered with wind-curved tiles. The corner window on the first floor is recessed relative to that on the ground floor.

On the right is the bay window with brick parapet. The balcony has a brick parapet with open-work parabolic arches. Above the original balcony door (now altered to a window) is a canopy. The right side facade has a blind section above this canopy. Behind it the roofline runs lower and, like the front section, has a canopy with a recessed brick section on which wind-curved tiles are laid. The left side facade, in which the entrance is located, is accessible via a wide brick platform with stairs. On the right one first sees the mentioned corner windows, then the door follows. This is a varnished round-arch panel door and a canopy, suspended from iron rods. In this facade are asymmetrically placed windows in both landscape and portrait format. Behind this is a section with a lower roofline with corner window and canopy. Finally comes the single-storey attached kitchen under a flat roof, provided with a strongly overhanging gutter line. This extension has a tall narrow chimney, which is connected to the villa by means of a tie rod.

In the draught porch is the original flamed tiling with geometric division.

The front garden is enclosed with a brick wall with steel round tubes.

Valuation

The villa is of architectural historical importance because of its style and the integrity of its exterior. The importance of the object lies in the high aesthetic qualities of the design and it is of special significance for the appearance of the village.
