Omschrijving
Inleiding
Omschrijving
Bouvy Amsterdam Ft.".

Description
Introduction
HOTEL de Boomgaard, originally with stables and coachman's dwelling, was built in 1902 on the orders of P.H. Esser.
The design in neo-renaissance style is probably by J. Kayser. The tall and broad building is situated on the old through main street of Boxmeer and is enclosed on two sides by ribbon development. Shortly after 1945 the stables were demolished.
Description
The building has a rectangular plan and consists of a main building and a gatehouse. The hotel has a hipped roof with pantiles, on which three roof dormers with zinc pirons. The three-storey brick front facade consists of four window bays and is divided by stone plint, likewise sill courses and plastered bands.
Vertically the facade is divided by segmental arches framed with moulded stone, in which casement windows with divided fanlights are incorporated. The recessed arch drums and the breastworks are richly decorated with string-pressed stone mosaics and diamond studs.
Notable is that the masonry above the sill course of the first floor recesses over its entire remaining height.
This is not the case with the southernmost window bay, whereby here a corner risalit is formed, which, above the third storey, projects even further. This risalit has a apex gable with three diagonally placed ball finials and a round light. The paired casement and sash windows are placed in a round-arched niche, which spans the full width of the risalit.
The front facade, which is finished with a moulded gutter course on corbels, has fine detailing including a wing-panel door placed to the left of the risalit with wrought-iron door grilles executed in Art Nouveau style, flagstaff, wrought-iron ornamental anchors and a seven-part black glazed nameplate with painted text: "HOTEL 'DE BOOMGAARD' PH. ESSER", according to an inscription by "Ant. N. Bouvy Amsterdam Ft.". The brick rear facade is partly whitewashed. Against the building stands a right-angled single-storey rear extension, of which the pantile-covered gabled roof at the side of the courtyard has a substantial overhang on corbels.
This concerns the former stables with servants' dwelling. Against the blank southern facade stands a two-storey gatehouse with a gabled roof with end shield, covered with Rhineland tiles. The front facade consists of two window bays. The principal element in the facade is the gateway to the paved rear courtyard. This passage is relieved by a beam concealed behind moulded stucco, resting on consoles. The window to the left of the gate, and the two on the storey are all provided with casement windows with divided fanlight.
In the interior, among other things, the rich stucco ceilings with floral motifs and the wooden bar with glass cabinet and clock from c. 1930 are important.
Valuation
The hotel is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of hospitality facilities in the growing settlement as a result of the construction of the railway connection; it is also important as an example of the typological development of the hotel. The object is of architectural-historical importance because of the style and detailing and as an example of the oeuvre of architect Kayser. It has ensemble values as a good example of a village hotel, which by its scale plays an important role in the street scene.
It is important because of the architectural integrity of the exterior and interior. It is important because of its architectural-historical, building-technical and typological rarity.
