Inleiding
Een in 1858 tot stand gekomen WINKELWONING in een traditionele bouw met strakke en sobere gevels en met invloeden van de Neo -Hollandse Renaissance of Neo-Maniërisme bij winkelpui en kroonlijst. Gelegen op de hoek van Het Rapenburg en de Peperstraat.
Delen van het interieur van het pand zijn in 1911 hersteld in verband met brandschade. In 1919 volgde nog een kleine verbouwing.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan tot stand gekomen met souterrain, begane grond, en drie verdiepingen onder een schilddak met pannen en met dakkapel en hijsbalk. Gemetselde gevels op lage plint. Voorgevel met drie traveeën; zijgevel met gevelsteen met jaartal in spaarveld over twee bouwlagen. De afschuining bij de hoek van de winkelpui wordt ondersteund door dunne ronde korbelen of schoren die op stijlen of kolommen lijken. De stijlen in de winkelpui hebben een pilastervorm die de vrijheid van Neo-Hollandse Renaissance of Neo-Maniërisme tonen. De bovengevel en de zijgevel zijn traditioneel van opzet. De gevellijst loopt over beide gevels door. Tussen fries en kroonlijst bevindt zich een tandlijst. De gegoten muurankers hebben een gestileerde vorm. In de zijgevel aan de Peperstraat bevindt zich de oorspronkelijke en traditionele raamverdeling: een eenvoudige tweedeling in de breedte. De vensters van de voorgevel hebben een ongedeeld bovenraam met een eenvoudige middenroede in het onderraam, het zogenaamde T-venster.

A SHOP-HOUSE created in 1858 in traditional construction with taut and sober facades and with influences of Neo-Dutch Renaissance or Neo-Mannerism in the shop front and cornice. Located at the corner of Het Rapenburg and the Peperstraat.

Description
Created on a rectangular ground plan with basement, ground floor, and three storeys under a hipped roof with tiles and with roof dormer and hoist beam. Mortared facades on low plinth. Front facade with three bays; side facade with facade stone with year in spandrel over two storeys. The chamfer at the corner of the shop front is supported by thin round corbels or braces that resemble uprights or columns. The uprights in the shop front have a pilaster form that shows the freedom of Neo-Dutch Renaissance or Neo-Mannerism. The upper facade and the side facade are traditional in layout. The facade line runs through both facades. Between frieze and cornice is a dentil course. The cast wall anchors have a stylized form. In the side facade on the Peperstraat is the original and traditional window division: a simple two-part division in width. The windows of the front facade have an undivided upper light with a simple centre muntin in the lower light, the so-called T-window.
Valuation
Shop-house from 1858 of general importance because of its typological and architectural-historical value. The lower front of this property illustrates the then-modern development towards shop fronts with an ever-larger glass surface. The chamfered corner with the entrance was in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century a common feature in corner buildings. The windows of the front facade are very modern for their construction period; to date the earliest example of T-windows in Amsterdam. The facades have been preserved intact.
