Inleiding
In 1891 werd het bestaande pand aan de Herengracht 415 verbouwd tot VERENIGINGSGEBOUW in opdracht van de Rooms- katholieke St. Willibrordusstichting ten behoeve van de vereniging 'Geloof en Wetenschap'. Deze verbouwing naar een ontwerp van de architect W.G. Welsing betrof een herindeling van de vertrekken alsmede een nieuwe kap en voorgevel in de stijl van de neo-Hollandse renaissance. Interieur met fraaie gehoorzaal op de eerste verdieping.
Omschrijving
Het pand bevindt zich op een smal perceel met een in de gevelwand opgenomen voorgevel aan de Herengracht en heeft drie bouwlagen, inclusief een onderkeldering.
Gedekt door een zadeldak met pannen. In staand verband gemetselde voorgevel in lichtbruine baksteen afgewisseld met gebruik van natuursteen bij sokkel en accenten en met sierlijk smeedijzeren muurankers. Sokkelzone met gebosseerde blokken in de pilasters en met plint en profielen. Aan de rechterzijde de hoofdtoegang met deur met middenlicht en met verdiepte stoep en portiek. Aan de linkerzijde een eveneens verdiept geplaatste toegang met dubbele deuren met lichten. In het midden een geleed venster. Deuren en venster hebben sierlijk smeedijzeren traliewerk. Trapeziumvormige spaarvelden met siermetselwerk en natuurstenen blokken als fries onder geprofileerde cordonlijst. Op de verdieping de drie hoge vensters van de gehoorzaal onder gedrukt boogvormige spaarvelden met siermetselwerk en met natuurstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen en speklagen. Vensters met kruisvormig bovenlicht met dubbel getoogde bovenzijde en met glas-in-lood raamvulling boven benedenvenster met middenpost. Boven een geprofileerde gevellijst de drie vensters van de tweede verdieping met schuiframen en met middenpost geleed bovenlicht met glas-in- lood raamvulling. Vergelijkbare bogen met spaarvelden en natuurstenen accenten. Trapgevel met zes treden en overhoeks geplaatste gemetselde bekroning en met venster met dubbel draairaanm en met geleed bovenlicht met glas-in-lood raamvulling. Flankerende nissen en smeedijzeren hijsbalk.
Gehoorzaal op de eerste verdieping met oorspronkelijke lambrizering, plafondschilderingen, wandpilasters en gedecoreerde korbelen met engel (fides) en uil (scientia). De letters 'F' en "S' in de glas-in-lood raamvulling aan de achterzijde verwijzen eveneens naar de oorspronkelijke bestemming van de zaal.

Description

Assembly hall on the first floor with original wainscoting, ceiling paintings, wall pilasters and decorated corbels with angel (fides) and owl (scientia). The letters 'F' and 'S' in the leaded glass window infill at the rear likewise refer to the original purpose of the hall.
Valuation
Originally older building converted in 1891 into an association building of general importance for its architectural and cultural-historical value as an exponent of Roman Catholic emancipation and association life in the late second half of the 19th century.
