Inleiding
In de bocht van de Korte Marnixkade in 1893-'94 tot stand gekomen WOONHUIS met twee bovenhuizen naar een ontwerp van H.H. Baanders en G. van Arkel in opdracht van J.W. van Tubergen. Het herenhuis is gebouwd in een trant die wel aangeduid wordt als Overgangsarchitectuur.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekige plattegrond in een donkere baksteen opgetrokken woonhuis bestaande uit souterrain, bel-etage en drie verdiepingen onder een plat dak. De gevel is drie vensterassen breed. De ingangstravee risaleert vanwege de gebogen rooilijn. In deze linkertravee bevindt zich in een portiek een dubbele ingangspartij met eikehouten deuren. De portiek heeft een stoep met drie treden. In het portiek is een tegeltableau met een reliëfvoorstelling aangebracht. De vensters liggen onder bogen. In de linkertravee zijn de vensters in drieeën verdeeld met drie boogjes. De bogen zijn met geglazuurde tegeltjes bedekt. De bovenlichten van de vensters zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood. Het basement is van natuursteen (waarin toegang tot souterrain), evenals de rijkbewerkte consoles onder het balkon, de speklagen, de waterlijsten, de jaartalsteen en de beëindiging van de tuitgevel in de linkertravee. Rijk bewerkt smeedwerk is toegepast bij de stoephekken, de deuren en de balustrade van het balkon.

Description
Residential building erected on a rectangular ground plan in dark brick consisting of basement, bel-étage and three storeys under a flat roof. The facade is three window bays wide. The entrance bay projects because of the curved building line. In this left bay there is located in a porch a double entrance arrangement with oak doors. The porch has a stoep with three steps. In the porch a tile tableau with a relief representation is applied. The windows are set under arches. In the left bay the windows are divided into three with three little arches. The arches are covered with glazed tiles. The fanlights of the windows are provided with leaded glass. The basement is of natural stone (containing access to the basement), as well as the richly worked consoles under the balcony, the band stones, the drip mouldings, the date stone and the termination of the spout gable in the left bay. Richly worked wrought ironwork is applied in the stoep railings, the doors and the balustrade of the balcony.
Evaluation
Building of general importance because of architectural-historical value as a good example of late 19th-century architecture with carefully executed detailing. Also of importance because of the well-preserved exterior and various components of the interior.
