Inleiding
Aan de Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal in 1888-'89 tot stand gekomen KANTOORGEBOUW naar een ontwerp in Neo-Hollandse Renaissance van A.L. van Gendt in opdracht van de Handelsvereniging 'Amsterdam'. N.B. In 1907 werd de binnenplaats achter het pand aan de Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal overdekt door de Gebr. van Gendt ALzn. in opdracht van directeur P. Reineke. In 1909-10 werd het gebouw, eveneens in opdracht van de Handelsvereniging 'Amsterdam' naar de Spuistraat uitgebreid naar ontwerp in Rationalistische trant van de Gebr. van Gendt met de nrs. 113-123. In 1925 werd het pand uitgebreid met nr. 111.
Omschrijving
Op een samengestelde plattegrond in twee fasen tot stand gekomen bakstenen kantoorpand. Het gebouw aan de Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal bestaat uit souterrain, bel-etage en twee verdiepingen onder een schilddak met shingles. Het souterrain is opgetrokken in rustica bewerkt hardsteen. De gevel is acht vensterassen breed. Middelste twee vensterassen springen licht naar voren en worden afgesloten door een topgevel in de stijl van Vredeman de Vries. Twee kleinere topgevels op de hoeken. De rijk gedecoreerde ingang bevindt zich in de twee meest rechts gelegen vensterassen ter hoogte van souterrain en bel-etage. Entree voorzien van rijk bewerkte panelendeur met glas-in-lood bovenlicht. Rechthoekige vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten. Op de tweede verdieping vensters voorzien van geprofileerde boogvelden. Uitkragende en gekorniste kroonlijst aan de onderzijde voorzien van rijk bewerkte consoles. Daarboven een attiek waarop de topgevels zijn geplaatst.
Gebouw aan de Spuistraat bestaande uit souterrain, bel-etage en twee verdiepingen onder een schilddak met shingles. Gevel vier traveeën breed. Linkertravee eindigt in topgevel en is over drie verdiepingen voorzien van kolossale pilasters. De travee heeft op de hoeken ronde uitkragingen over alle bovenverdiepingen. Het souterrain is over de gehele gevelbreedte in rustica hardsteen uitgevoerd. Vensters in verschillende samenstellingen gekoppeld en alle voorzien van natuurstenen vensteromlijstingen. De ramen zijn verdiept geplaatst. Bovenlichten door roeden onderverdeeld. Ronde hoekoplossing. Sommige natuurstenen vensteromlijstingen decoratief bewerkt.

Description
Brick office building erected on a composite ground plan in two phases. The building on the Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal consists of a basement, bel-étage and two storeys under a hipped roof with shingles. The basement is constructed of rusticated hard stone. The facade is eight window bays wide. The middle two window bays project slightly forward and are terminated by a stepped gable in the style of Vredeman de Vries. Two smaller stepped gables at the corners. The richly decorated entrance is located in the two rightmost window bays at the level of basement and bel-étage. Entrance provided with richly worked panelled door with leaded glass fanlight. Rectangular windows with leaded glass fanlights. On the second storey windows furnished with moulded arches. Projecting and moulded cornice at the bottom provided with richly worked consoles. Above this an attic on which the stepped gables are placed.
Building on the Spuistraat consisting of basement, bel-étage and two storeys under a hipped roof with shingles. Facade four bays wide. Left bay ends in a stepped gable and is furnished over three storeys with colossal pilasters. The bay has round projections at the corners over all upper storeys. The basement is executed throughout the full width of the facade in rusticated hard stone. Windows in various assemblies coupled and all provided with natural stone window surrounds. The windows are set back. Fanlights subdivided by glazing bars. Round corner solution. Some natural stone window surrounds decoratively worked.
