Aan de westzijde van de Huidekoperstraat en gedeeltelijk om de hoek van Falckstraat en Weteringschans gelegen blok van 72 ARBEIDERSWONINGEN en twee WINKELS, gebouwd in 1869-70 naar een ontwerp in eclectische trant van P.J. Hamer in opdracht van de Vereeniging ten behoeve der Arbeidersklasse.
Omschrijving
L-vormig blok van 72 arbeiderswoningen bestaande uit vier bouwlagen onder een omlopend, met pannen bedekt schilddak. De in baksteen opgetrokken voorgevel aan Huidekoperstraat is 28 vensterassen breed en wordt verticaal geleed door witgepleisterde lisenen met eenvoudige kapiteelaanduidingen langs de traveeën waar zich de ingangsdeuren en trapportalen bevinden. Deze traveeën risaleren iets en worden boven de gootlijst benadrukt door de dakapellen. De herhaling van deze verticale elementen wordt visueel ondersteund door de gepleisterde omlijsting van venster- en deuropeningen. De als één geheel behandelde gevels zijn symmetrisch van opzet, gespiegeld ten opzichte van een centrale middenas, en met accenten op de hoeken. De vier middelste traveeën zijn rijker gedetailleerd en hebben beneden een gepleisterde bossering, een gepleisterde omlijsting van de vensters en een balustrade tussen beide dakkapellen. Description
L-shaped block of 72 workers' dwellings consisting of four storeys under an encompassing hipped roof covered with tiles. The front facade in brick on Huidekoperstraat is 28 window axes wide and is vertically articulated by whitewashed pilasters with simple capital indications along the bays where the entrance doors and stairwell portals are located. These bays project slightly and are emphasised above the cornice line by the roof gables. The repetition of these vertical elements is visually supported by the plastered framing of window and door openings. The facades treated as a unified whole are symmetrically organised, mirrored with respect to a central median axis, and with accents at the corners. The four middle bays are more richly detailed and have below plastered bossing, a plastered framing of the windows and a balustrade between both roof gables. The three bay-wide corner sections (with rounded central bay) are likewise emphasised by whitewashed articulations and richly profiled window framings and originally balustrades (now, 1996, disappeared). The windows in the recessed facade sections are treated more simply. They lie slightly recessed in the facade plane, topped with a plastered keystone. All windows, with the exception of the roof gables and shop windows, have six-pane sash windows. The facades are terminated by a continuous profiled cornice, corniced around the projecting sections. Broad double entrance doors provide access to the entry with stairwell, which is lit via windows in the front facade. Dwellings on the rear side provided with an extension, originally intended as kitchen and privy.
The facade sections located around the corner section on Weteringschans and Falckstraat are four window axes wide. On Falckstraat the last bay is provided with a framed double door. On Weteringschans the last bay is slightly chamfered.

Early example of a workers' dwelling block in eclectic style of general importance owing to architectural, cultural and social-historical value as well as owing to innovative typological value as one of the first complexes realised on behalf of the oldest housing association in Amsterdam.
