Inleiding
In 1879 gebouwd pakhuis in oorsprong gebruikt als opslagruimte met op de begane grond de turbines bestemd voor de gaslampen in de Wintertuin. In 1883 werd het gebouw aan de oostzijde vergroot om onderdak te bieden aan de electriciteitscentrale, de eerste van Amsterdam, die zowel het hotel als het gehele gebied rondom de Dam van electriciteit voorzag. Vermoedelijk was G.B. Salm de architect hiervan.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekige plattegrond in baksteen opgetrokken pakhuis onderdeel van het complex Krasnapolsky. Het pand bestaat uit drie bouwlagen onder een zadeldak met pannen. Het gebouw heeft aan de langszijde twee tuitgevels met hijsluiken. Op de begane grond bevinden zich een aantal blinde vensters en enkele toevoerbuizen (voor de aanvoer van het gas bestemd voor de gaslampen in de Wintertuin). De vensters zijn onregelmatig in de gevel geplaatst. Geheel rechts een hoog uit het gebouw rijzende gemetselde ronde schoorsteen.
Interieur. Op alle verdiepingen troggewelven. Het gebouw heeft nog de oorspronkelijke gietijzeren constructie. De gietijzeren kolommen zijn thans bekleed met een betonlaag.
Waardering
Voormalig pakhuis met electriciteitscentrale van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde. Pakhuis eveneens van bouwtechnisch belang vanwege de nog aanwezige gietijzeren constructie en tevens van belang als functioneel onderdeel van het complex.

Warehouse constructed in brick on a rectangular ground plan, part of the Krasnapolsky complex. The building consists of three storeys under a gabled roof with tiles. The building has two spout gables with hoisting shutters on the long side. On the ground floor there are a number of blind windows and several supply pipes (for the supply of gas intended for the gas lamps in the Winter Garden). The windows are irregularly positioned in the facade. On the far right a tall brick round chimney rising from the building.
Interior. Barrel vaults on all floors. The building still has the original cast iron structure. The cast iron columns are now clad with a layer of concrete.
