Inleiding
Het betreft een breed en hoog ONDERWIJZERSWOONHUIS uit omstreeks 1900, met elementen van Chaletstijl, aan drie zijde vrij gelegen in de kom van Ravenstein. Tegenwoordig is het deels als winkel in gebruik.
Omschrijving
Het huis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en tweelaags voor- en zijgevels onder plat dak met schilden, gedekt met kruispannen. De achtergevel is drielaags onder plat dak. De voorgevel, iets terugliggend in de rooilijn, heeft een a-symmetrisch geplaatste risaliet onder overkragende, opengewerkte houten kap. Ter linkerzijde van de risaliet bevindt zich één vensteras, ter rechterzijde twee. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen. De voorgevel is geleed door gele strengpersstenen banden en waterlijsten. Ook de boogvullingen van de vensters en het ornamentale metselwerk in het fries zijn in deze steen uitgevoerd. De zwarte strengpersstenen plint wordt ter hoogte van de risaliet onderbroken door een deels in hardsteen uitgevoerde trappartij, leidend naar de vleugelpaneeldeur, met een bovenlicht en een trekbel. De vensters van de voorgevel zijn, op het driedelige venster links naast de voordeur na, alle gesneden T-schuifvensters, waarvan de bovendorpel wordt gedragen door consoles. De bovenlichten van de vensters op de begane grond en die op de verdieping in de risaliet hebben een kleine roedenverdeling. De zij- en achtergevel hebben eenvoudiger zesruits schuifvensters, deels met opgeklampte luiken. Het interieur heeft nog de oorspronkelijke indeling, waarvan de hal met aangrenzende, over de gehele diepte van het huis doorlopende gang, is voorzien van de oorspronkelijke kunststenen tegelvloer, gedeeltelijk met geometrische motieven, tochtdeuren met glas-in-lood, en lambriseringen. De vertrekken hebben op eenvoudige wijze geometrisch versierde stucplafonds.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de bestuurlijke en onderwijskundige ontwikkeling en heeft typologisch belang voor de ontwikkeling van het onderwijzerswoonhuis. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de gave hoofdvorm en de stijl en detaillering. Door het gave inwendige is het een karakteristiek voorbeeld van de wooncultuur rond 1900. This is a broad and tall SCHOOLMASTER'S HOUSE from around 1900, with Chalet-style elements, freely positioned on three sides within the village centre of Ravenstein. Nowadays it is partly in use as a shop.

The house has a rectangular floor plan and two storeys on the front and side elevations under a flat roof with pediments, covered with Spanish tiles. The rear elevation is three storeys under a flat roof. The front elevation, set slightly back from the building line, has an asymmetrically placed risalit under an overhanging, openwork wooden canopy. On the left side of the risalit there is one window bay, on the right side two. The elevations are built in brick. The front elevation is articulated by bands of yellow pressed-brick and drip mouldings. The window arch fillings and the ornamental brickwork in the frieze are also executed in this stone. The black pressed-brick plinth is interrupted at the height of the risalit by a flight of steps, partly executed in hardstone, leading to the panelled wing door with a fanlight and a door pull. The windows of the front elevation, except for the tripartite window to the left of the front door, are all cut T-sash windows, the upper sill of which is supported by consoles. The fanlights of the windows on the ground floor and those on the first floor in the risalit have a small glazing bar division. The side and rear elevations have simpler six-paned sash windows, some with fixed shutters. The interior retains its original layout, including the hall with an adjoining corridor running the full depth of the house, fitted with the original artificial stone tile floor, partly with geometric motifs, draught doors with leaded glass, and wainscoting. The rooms have simply geometrically decorated stucco ceilings.
Valuation
The dwelling is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an example of administrative and educational development and has typological importance for the development of the schoolmaster's house. It has architectural-historical importance because of its well-preserved main form and style and detailing.
