Inleiding
Voormalig HERENHUIS van burgemeester en bierbrouwer A.A.C.T. van Claarenbeek, gebouwd omstreeks 1885 in eclectische stijl. Het voor de oude kom van Ravenstein zeer brede en tevens vrij hoge pand is gelegen aan de rand van de kom van Ravenstein. De achtergelegen brouwerij is afgebroken. Tegenwoordig is het deels als woonhuis, deels als postkantoor in gebruik.
Omschrijving
Het pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een twee-en-een-halflaagse voorgevel van zeven vensterassen, waarachter een onregelmatig schilddak schuilgaat. De begane grond van de voorgevel is gepleisterd in blokverband. De verdiepingen zijn van elkaar gescheiden door zwaar aangezette gepleisterde cordonlijsten. Op de begane grond treft men vijf T-vensters aan, net als die op de eerste verdieping met gestucte geprofileerde omlijsting met kuif. Geheel rechts op de begane grond een vleugelpaneeldeur met vier gietijzeren deurroosters. De oorspronkelijke voordeur zat links van het midden: deze is uitgenomen en in de aldus ontstane portiek zijn recentelijk twee deuren geplaatst.
Op de eerste verdieping hebben alle vensters zesruits schuiframen. De daar boven liggende mezzanino telt zeven kleine tweelichts kantelramen. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een zware geprofileerde houten gootlijst op consoles tegen een gestuct fries. De bakstenen zijgevels zijn deels gepleisterd. Het huis heeft een hardstenen stoep.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-ecomomische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van een burgemeesterswoning in het bestaande stedelijk weefsel, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door het voornaam representatieve karakter zoals dat in de stijl en detaillering tot uiting komt. Het huis is van belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur. Het is van belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische en typologische zeldzaamheid van een dergelijke representatieve burgemeesterswoning.

Introduction
Former TOWNHOUSE of mayor and brewer A.A.C.T. van Claarenbeek, built around 1885 in eclectic style. The property, which is very wide and relatively tall for the old core of Ravenstein, is situated on the edge of Ravenstein's core. The adjoining brewery has been demolished. Today it is used partly as a residence, partly as a post office.
Description
The property has a rectangular floor plan and a two-and-a-half-storey front facade with seven window bays, behind which an irregular hipped roof is concealed. The ground floor of the front facade is rendered in ashlar pattern. The storeys are separated from one another by heavily applied rendered cornice bands. On the ground floor there are five T-windows, like those on the first floor with stuccoed profiled moulding with pediment. Far right on the ground floor a half-pane door with four cast-iron door grilles. The original front door was located left of centre: this has been removed and two recently placed doors are positioned in the entrance thus created.
On the first floor all windows have six-pane sash windows. The mezzanine above it has seven small two-light tilt windows. The facade is finished with a heavy profiled wooden cornice on consoles against a stuccoed frieze. The brick side facades are partly rendered. The house has a hardstone stoep.
Valuation
The townhouse is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of a mayor's residence within the existing urban fabric, and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the townhouse.
