Inleiding
Te Neerloon staat op de Maasdijk, op de kruising met de Loonsestraat, een HEILIG-HARTBEELD, vervaardigd omstreeks 1930 door Albert Meertens. Het object is markant gesitueerd naast de negentiende-eeuwse R.K. kerk (rijksmonument).
Omschrijving
Op een handvorm bakstenen sokkel, waarop aan de voorzijde een kunststenen plaat met de inscriptie: "Heer / blijf / bij ons!", staat op een kunststenen dekplaat een kalkstenen Heilig Hartbeeld, dat gericht is naar de kerk. Op de zijkant de inscriptie: "Meertens". Het beeld is markant op de dijk geplaatst in een half-cirkelvormig plantsoen, omgeven door een hekwerk met poortje, bestaande uit bakstenen pijlers en ijzeren buizen. Om het plantsoen zijn linden geplant.
Waardering
Het H.-Hartbeeld is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke devotiecultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het H.-Hartmonument. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van het atelier Meertens.
