Omschrijving

Description
Introduction
PUMP HOUSE in Neo-Classicist style, designed in 1881 by J.P. van den Berg Janzn. The pump house is located on the Zwet in the rural area of Kwintsheul. At the front and rear of the pump house are lock chambers. The pump house was built by the water board Delfland for the drainage of the Oude and Nieuwebroekpolder. The original operational inventory was replaced around 1920 by a diesel installation of which part has been preserved.
Description
Pump house on an L-shaped plan, consisting of a main section with storey perpendicular to the dike and a single-storey extension (boiler house) parallel to the dike. Both parts have gabled roofs with dampened Dutch tiles. The facades are built up in red brick in running bond. A plastered plinth runs all around. The facades contain round-arched windows.
The south facade facing the dike has in the symmetrically arranged gable of the main section three and in the extension two four-light sash windows with fan glazing bars in the fanlights, surrounded by sandstone mouldings on flower consoles. The frames have wooden sills and ogee-profiled mullions. On the storey of the main section the same windows but extended to six-light sash windows. At the top a round frame with eight-light radial glazing bars. At the corners of the main section block pilasters and on the gable a profiled moulding, ending in a spout. The extension has a simple wooden cornice.
The gable of the boiler house on the west has ornamental wall anchors and a round window. The gable is topped with hardstone cappings. The plastered plinth is raised in the middle. The west facade of the main building is plastered and has a four-light sash window and a clamped door. Below the wooden cornice are ornamental wall anchors.
The north facade of the extension has two windows as on the south facade and a clamped door. Here also a wooden cornice. The north facade of the main section has on the ground floor two and on the storey three six-light sash windows as on the front. Centrally on the ground floor the entrance door under a fanlight with fan glazing bars. In the gable the same round window, block pilasters and gable moulding as on the front.
The east facade has a wooden profiled moulding above a brick facade with ornamental wall anchors and clamped ventilation pipes, belonging to the installation from the nineteen-twenties. This facade has no plastered plinth.
