Inleiding
Direct aan de Zaanweg, in de gesloten gevelwand gelegen en met de noklijn haaks hierop gericht PAKHUIS, genaamd "Amsterdam", gebouwd in 1884 in opdracht van Jacob Martinus van Gelder, handelaar in fijne zaden en peulvruchten. In 1938 is de dubbele deur op de begane grond in de middenrisaliet geplaatst. De kap is na een interne brand omstreeks 1942 vernieuwd en de achtergevel op de begane grond doorgebroken om toegang te verschaffen tot de loods die in 1953 achter het pakhuis is geplaatst.
Omschrijving:
Pakhuis op vrijwel vierkante plattegrond, van drie bouwlagen onder een zadeldak bedekt met opnieuw verbeterde Hollandse pannen. Het pakhuis heeft een bakstenen voorgevel en houten, gepotdekselde achter- en zijgevels die thans aan de buitenzijde met metalen platen zijn bekleed.
De voorgevel is opgemetseld in grauwe baksteen in kruisverband met de toepassing van gele baksteen in decoratieve banden en in aanzetten en sluitstenen van vensterbogen. De tuitgevel is uitgevoerd met schouders en een iets risalerend middendeel. In deze middenrisaliet bevinden zich in de eerste en tweede bouwlaag dubbele deuren in een over de twee bouwlagen doorlopend kozijn ontlast door een segmentboog. De derde bouwlaag bevat een drietal kleine vensters en in de top bevindt zich een paar boogvensters onder een uitkragende ontlastingsboog die op uitgemetselde lisenen rust. Onder de boogvensters bevindt zich een natuursteen gevelsteen met de naam "Amsterdam". De top van de middenrisaliet is uitgevoerd als een tuitgevel bekroond door een obelisk-achtig ornament van natuursteen. Aan weerszijden van de risaliet heeft de begane grond een getoogde dubbele deur met aan weerskanten een klein venster. Links van de linkerdeur bevindt zich in plaats van een venster een getoogde deur waarin twee ijzeren deurroosters. Op de etage bevinden zich links en rechts een paar getoogde vensters. De tweede etage heeft links en rechts van de risaliet twee paar kleine vensters en in de driehoekige velden van de geveltop zijn drie, naar buiten toe kleiner wordende, vensters geplaatst. Langs de daklijst loopt een klimmend tandfries. Inwendig heeft het pakhuis een vierbeukig houtskelet. De linkerbeuk is op alle drie de bouwlagen bijna twee maal zo breed als de overige drie beuken. De zolder wordt gevormd door één groot spant. De standvinken verjongen zich naar boven toe en aan de straatzijde heeft in de zuidhoek op de eerste etage vermoedelijk een kantoor gezeten aangezien de spanten hier zijn verrijkt met sleutelstukken en gedecoreerde korbelen. De zij- en achtergevels worden aan de binnenzijde gevormd door een getrapte weeg die in de stijlen is ingelaten.
Waardering
Het pakhuis "Amsterdam" is van algemeen belang uit cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een laat negentiende-eeuws pakhuis langs de Zaan. Het pakhuis heeft ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de Zaanwand te Wormerveer.

A WAREHOUSE, named "Amsterdam", situated directly on the Zaanweg in the closed gable wall with its ridge line directed perpendicular to it, built in 1884 on commission of Jacob Martinus van Gelder, merchant in fine seeds and legumes. In 1938 the double door on the ground floor in the central risalit was installed. The roof was renewed after an internal fire around 1942 and the rear facade on the ground floor was broken through to provide access to the shed which was placed behind the warehouse in 1953.

Warehouse on an almost square ground plan, of three storeys under a gabled roof covered with newly improved Dutch tiles. The warehouse has a brick front facade and wooden rear and side facades, pitch-coated, which are now clad on the outside with metal plates.
The front facade is built up in grey brick in header bond with the use of yellow brick in decorative bands and in the springer and keystones of window arches. The spout gable is executed with shoulders and a slightly projecting central section. In this central risalit there are double doors in the first and second storey in a mullion running across the two storeys, relieved by a segmental arch. The third storey contains three small windows and at the top are a pair of arched windows under a projecting relieving arch resting on built-out pilasters. Below the arched windows is a natural stone facade stone with the name "Amsterdam". The top of the central risalit is executed as a spout gable crowned by an obelisk-like ornament of natural stone. On either side of the risalit the ground floor has a arched double door with a small window on each side. To the left of the left door, in place of a window, is an arched door with two iron door grilles. On the first storey are a pair of arched windows to the left and right. The second storey has two pairs of small windows to the left and right of the risalit and in the triangular fields of the gable top are three windows placed, becoming smaller towards the outside. Along the roof line runs a climbing brick pattern frieze. Internally the warehouse has a four-aisle timber frame. The left aisle is on all three storeys almost twice as wide as the other three aisles. The loft is formed by one large truss. The king posts taper upwards and on the street side in the southern corner on the first storey there was presumably an office since the trusses here are enriched with keystones and decorated corbels. The side and rear facades are formed on the inside by a stepped scale let into the posts.
